a diamond happened to fall from the solitaire of a young lady as she was walking one evening in a terrace in the garden.
a glow-worm, who saw it sparkling as it fell, soon as the gloom of night had eclipsed its luster, began to mock and to insult it. "are you truly this glorified jewel that all the insects bow to? where now is all your boasted brilliancy? in this evil hour has fortune thrown you within the reach of my superior blaze!"
"conceited insect," replied the diamond, "you are left to your sickly feeble glimmer to the darkness that surrounds thee. my glimmer passes the test of day, and even takes its highest advantage from that distinguishing light, which shows you to be no more than a dark and paltry worm."
do not get hung up on your self-image.
