"❁the grasshopper and the ant

it was a warm, peaceful, and lively summer, and a grasshopper danced and played his violin day in and day out, not realizing that a harsh, cold winter would soon be coming to visit him.

one particularly peaceful evening, the grasshopper was taking a stroll through the woods. he passed an ant, who was working hard with her family to prepare for the rainy and snowy days coming soon. being a kind creature, he asked the ant if she would like to accompany him on his evening walk.

"oh, grasshopper, I would love to take a stroll, but I'm working to prepare my shelter and storing food for winter," replied the ant. "you must be working too! winter is coming soon!"

"work? why, we have plenty of time before winter! come and walk with me! we will sing and dance and enjoy this lovely evening!" insisted the grasshopper.

but the ant was very wise, and refused the grasshopper's offer. she continued to work and store food for the long winter that was to come.

so that was what went on for the rest of the summer, and autumn, too. winter came early, before anyone expected, and the grasshopper found himself in quite a predicament for he had no shelter and no food. so he ran to the ant's home and begged to stay with her and her family.

"oh, grasshopper, I'm so sorry. I would take you in, but I only have enough room and food for my family and me," woefully said the ant. "you'll have to stay somewhere else." and the grasshopper walked off into the cold woods, asking for help from every animal he saw.

"I should have taken her advice in the summer," the grasshopper thought sadly. "I would be fast asleep in warmth right now."
