Chapter 9:

"How far away are we?" I was getting tired of walking.

"We are not that close. Maybe a couple of hours or so." Will said stepping over a rock.

"Can we take a moment to sit and eat a snack? Im hungry."

"Mhm me too." Elena agreed looking down at the ground.

"Oh fine. But you have to eat fast." He stopped walking and sat by the river. Elena layed next back next to him while I sat on the rock that Will had previously stepped on. He opened his bag and took out two apples, handing them to us.

"Are you not going to eat?"

"No I'm not hungry." He looked over to us, "you guys wanna see a cool trick?"

"Um sure haha."

"Can I borrow an apple real quick?"

"Yea, here." Elena handed her apple to him. He took it and suddenly split the apple in half. I gasped,

"How did you do that?"

"It's not too difficult, you just place the bottom of the apple between your palms while your fingers go to the top of the apple. Then you put pressure on it it and pull it apart. Quite simple." He smiled as he handed the apple back to Elena.

"Im going to try it." I said confidently.
I tried to put pressure and such but it just ended up hurting my fingers, I gave up.

"I can't do it haha."

"Oo let me try it" Elena said laughing at my failure. I gave her my apple, turns out she couldn't do it either haha.

"Will, do you know about the roses that covered the field?" I asked, getting my apple back and taking a bite.

"Oh. I dont know how, but I have a feeling Adaline does that, I've seen them before. I feel like she is still around. Somehow." He ripped grass from the field.

"Why do you think she left them for us? And why were they all over the field?"

"I'm not sure. Maybe a welcoming, or a warning."

A warning? I want to ask him more, but he most likely doesn't know either. "What was she like?"

He took a moment to think.
"She was really smart. She was pretty and quiet. Very serious but sweet. She had dark brown hair and light blue eyes."

"Im so sorry you lost her."

He didn't say anything as he drank the last of the water, then stood up.

"Im going to get some more water." He walked towards the forest.

"Where are you going? There's water right here." Elena said pointing towards the river.

"You dont drink the river water." He kept walking not looking back.

"Maybe we shouldn't ask him about Adaline, he seems pretty sensitive about her. Can you braid my hair?"

I looked over to Elena to see her holding up an elastic.

"I agree. Do you want a french braid?"

"Sure." She sat infront of me so could I braid her hair. Her hair is a light brown, wavy and longer than mine.

"Oh my goodness Elena, did you even brush your hair?"

"Well there aren't any brushes here."

"This is a tangly mess" I said laughing.

"Oh shush up!" She was laughing also.

A few seconds later I had finished her braid and sat beside her. We sat in silence, both of us thinking about everything. So many thoughts but no words were said.

We heard footsteps and turned our heads to see William approaching us. He walked over to his bag putting the water away.

"Alright ladies lets get going." He picked up his bag and we continued to walk.
