The Mortem

Chapter 5:
(picture above is an idea of the field)

All we could see was darkness, there was wind and we heard faint laughters and music. The laughter and music started to disappear as soon as we saw little white lights, they looked like stars. I looked to my left and I saw Elena's arm but not her body. As we got closer to the star looking lights, the more I could see Elena.

We suddenly were laying on something cold and we quickly sat up. We were sitting on grass in the middle of a field and there were stars, so many stars it looked so beautiful. There was a river and a bridge further in the field, all we could hear now was a gentle breeze and rushing water.

"This is The Motrem? Its so pretty and peacful" Elena said as she stood up.

"I definitely was not expecting it to look like this." I said rubbing the dirt off my butt.

"Um Alyssa, where is your ghostie friend?"

"Ghostie?" I laughed as she nodded her head. Right then I heard a voice in my head, am I going crazy? I should not ask myself that question now, especially in this situation.

"Alyssa, can you hear me?" the voice spoke.

"Um yes I can, this is the same girl as before right?" I asked.

"Yes"

I looked to Elena and she was just looking around the field.

"Elena," she looked at me "do you hear voices in your head?"

She looked at me with a shocked expression

"No I dont hear anything, do you?"

I nodded my head and the voice said something again.

"Listen, you need to stay away from the bridge and stay away from Verloren, they are a mess, they'll drag you down." The girl spoke as if she was in a rush.

"What? Where is Verlor-?"

"You need to start walking, head to the cabin by the trees and stay there for the night. You wont see the sun in the morning, the stars are always there and they just get brighter during the day," she spoke quickly "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Elena we need to look for a cabin by the trees and we need to stay away from Verloren which im guessing is a place." I said, she nodded as a response.

"There it is, right arcoss the bridge, lets go." She pointed her finger and started walking.

"Wait we need to stay away from the bridge too." I said to her.

"Well what are we supposed to do?"

"Im not sure" I looked around for a small boat or something, but there was nothing."

"Maybe we are on the wrong side of the bridge. Lets go over to it and see what happens." Elena said as she continued to march.

I followed her and the closer we got to the bridge, the slower we walked. We looked around and under it and saw nothing but rose bushes on each side. Elena picked up a stick and threw it onto the bridge. We waited a few seconds and nothing happened, she looked at me and I started to walk across the bridge slowly. I got on the other side and looked at her

"Its safe, lets go" I said and she ran across the stone bridge. We looked at the bridge and nothing happened so we continued to walk to the cabin and then voices were heard. We turned around but saw nothing.

"Fück that šhit" Elena blurted out.

We started running and finally got to the cabin. We cautiously looked around the house and then opened the door. The inside was small but warm. It looked cozy in here, the walls were painted white and there was a glass table. We looked around and saw two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and one bathroom. I checked the bedrooms as Elena checked the kitchen for food.

The first bedroom I walked into, there was a bunkbed, a nightstand and a closet, with little toys in a bin. This room looked like it was for two little brothers, I closed the door and opend the door across the hall. In this bedroom, there was one bed, a mirror and also a closet. The flowery blanket on the bed matched the curtains. I assumed this was for the parents or something.

"Alyssa come here!" Elena yelled, I walked into the kitchen and she was looking in the cabinets.

"I found some food." She smiled at me.

I sat at the table as she took out some peanut butter, jelly, and bread. I made my sandwhich as she got me a glass of water from the sink.

"Thank you" I said as she placed the water infront of me.

When we had finished eating, Elena cleaned the dishes and I went to the room to see if there was extra clothes. There wasnt much, just a dress, two pairs of jeans, three sweaters, two shirts, socks, a pair of underwear, and a bra that was neither of our size. I took out two sweaters, I put one on and set the other on the bed so I could grab some socks.

Elena came in and put on the sweater that layed across the bed.

"Can we sleep in here?" She asked, I nodded my head. I turned the lamp on, shut the light off and got into bed. I turned over to Elena,

"Im really glad you came with me Elena."

"I couldnt let you go by yourself" She smiled. I turned back over and rested my eyes.

"Hey Alyssa?"

"Yea?"

"Can we switch pillows? Mine is too fat."

I laughed as I handed her my pillow.

"Goodnight Elena"

"Goodnight Alyssa"

And with that, I shut my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
