Chapter 5
I glance at Claudia out of my periphiral vision every few seconds as I drive us to school. She's texting on her phone and a small part of me is wondering if she's talking to Hunter. I want to ask her about him, but I don't want to seem like our mother who interrogates us every time she's worried. Yet, doing this was just as bad right?
"Do you know when nominations for the Home-coming court will start?" she asks.
Her question threw me out of my thoughts. "Um, I think they're taking nominations during lunch. Your'e thinking about participating?"
"Yeah, plus I think it'll score me some points with Torqouise."
I nearly slam on my brakes. "T-Torqouise?"
"Yeah, she's the dance captain and is involved in the girls' sororiety. Maybe if I can get up to her status, she'll go easy on me when I join the Bogasettes."
I roll my eyes. "Trust me you don't want to get involved with her or that sorority."
"Why?"
I tap my fingers against the steering wheel."Let's just say that the Bogessets aren't exactly merciful to new members and their tasks have the potential to ruin your relationships." I'm gaining momentum now. "not to mention--"
"Guinevere, hey, hey!" She snapped her fingers in my ear to get my attention.
"What?"
"Were you a recruit?"
I sighed. "Yeah, but after what happened, I decided it wasn't worth it." I knew she was going to ask about it, so I quickly added. "But don't let my personal experiences dictate what you want to do. By joining the club, you'll get new connections and a thriving social life. Not to mention its looks good on a college application."
"I still want to know what happened to you." She mutters.
"Okay, but only if you tell me something first."
"Sure,"
"Do you know Hunter Greene?"
Her voice is casual as she responds. "I've heard of him...he's kind of cute don't you think?"
I shrug my shoulders. "Meh, if you're into that sort of thing."
"Why'd you ask me about him?"
"Oh just a rumor going around that he's seeing a freshman."
"Really?" She asked, she clamps her mout shut...perhapes to hide a smile.
"Do you know anything about this freshman?"
She waves her hand as she talks. "There's a million of us you know, I can't possibly know everyone."
She knows something. "Listen Claudia, if he approaches you, just stay away from him okay?"
"He's a--he seems like a nice guy, but thanks mom for telling me who I should talk to."
I cringe at her tone, so I really was acting like mom. "Do you still want to hear my story?"
"No, thanks," She snaps.
Why the hell is she angry at me? All I gave was a warning. And it's not like she knows him better than I do. I've been with him my whole four years of highschool! Unless, she really was seeing him. Otherwise, why is she so snappy with me?
