Chapter 7

Sage and I managed to get to the second lunch without incident and I put her name into the nomination box as planned. Now all was left was to listen to the results.  I'm the last person to trickle into Mrs. Hannigan's classroom and Carrie glares a me as I walk in. She's sitting in the president's chair, so I figure she's taking over while Devon is doing the announcements. I ignore the look she's giving to me and Ifind an empty sat, spacing out as Devon delievers the pending school events.

"And now, to announce this year's Homecoming Court nominees." I perk up at the news and listen for the name I hope to hear.

"For the Freshman, the list for Homecoming princesses are: Mary Shultz, Amber Caradine, and Claudia Padgette." I smiled at the last name. Looks like Claudia got what she wanted after all. I tuned out as he mentioned the Homecoming princes and the other grade nominees, but then I came back as he went to the seniors. "The nominees for Homecoming king are: Hunter Greene, David Callum, and yours truly." I roll my eyes. "And the nominees for homecoming queen: Carrie Reynolds, Turquoise Adkins and...Sage Mcadams."

"What?" I heard a few girls chorus. I had to keep myself from, grinning. Yes, everything was going to according to plan. After the announcements, everyone starts talking about the nominees.

“Okay, everyone.” Carrie says, banging a gavel on the desk. Where the heck did that come from? “Mrs. Hangman has a conference, so we’re going to try to get the homecoming events done, as quickly as possible. If not, we’re just going to have to meet again tomorrow.”

A few people groan and I try not to be among them. I rather not be around Hampton High’s power couple any longer than I have to. “Any suggestions?” she asks.

I rise my hand. She glances at me before saying, “any other suggestions?”

“Carrie, give Guinevere a chance. We don’t deliberately skip over anyone here.” Mrs. Hannigan interjects.

She sighs, “Guinevere,”

I give a sweet smile to Mrs. Hannigan before saying, “I think instead of doing a senior bonfire like usual, we have a kids’ night.”  My words illicit some crazy stares from my fellow members, but I ignore their looks as I explain. “We’re all going to be adults soon and on our own, but wouldn’t it be great to relive the past? To go back to the time when all we had to worry about was how high we could swing on the swing set?”

“So, what you’re saying is that, you want us to come to school dressed in footie pajamas and watch Clifford the Big Red Dog?” Carrie is making fun of me, but I nod in agreement.

“Well we won’t watch educational kid shows, but maybe some old cartoons or a favorite kid movie.”

She rolls her eyes “We’re young adults, for a reason, so we’re over that kind of stuff.”

“Well some of us still walk around with kiddie backpacks and haven’t matured at all, so I don’t think my idea is that bad.”

She’s about to respond when Mrs. Hannigan intervenes.  “I think it’s an interesting idea, worthy of some consideration. Carrie, add it to the list.” Carrie mumbles something under her breath as she scribbles down my suggestion.

It’s not long before Devon walks in and takes a seat beside his girlfriend, letting him have his chair. She fills him in on our suggestions so far and after the discussions are over and a few death glares are given, we vote on the events. In the end, my idea wins for senior night by a landslide and Homecoming week is consisted of: Clown Day, College Day, Twin Day, and Music Day and of course, Spirit Day.
