Chapter 17- You Can't Do This Alone

Audrey POV

I walked over to where Knotgrass was, she was talking to the other Good Fairies.

"Excuse me, Knotgrass, I need to talk to you." I said, getting her attention. She nodded and walked over to the river leading out of the cave.

"What do you need?" she asked. I was a bit surprised that she knew I needed something. Before I could asked, she spoke first. "Before you ask, I saw you looking at one of the entrances, and had a feeling you wanted to leave."

"So, can you help me?"

"Depends on what you need."

"I need something that can help me not get caught if I ,theoretically, chose to leave."

She stared at me for a moment, looked through her bag, and pulled out a potion bottle.

"My mother gave me this bag, before I came here. She told me the potion can only be controlled with whatever you think, for example be invisible."

I took the potion bottle and hid it in my pocket. "Thank you, and I really do owe you."

She smiled, I smiled back, and walked to my friends.

What if this doesn't work? At least I tried, right? Why am I doing this?

I am doing this to save my family, and if I fail, I going to face whatever they do to me.

Jay POV

I knew the night came because the cave became cooler and chilly. A wind came by once and awhile.

I tried to look for some wood, but I only found the wood in the water. I decide to look in the alley from a nearby ladder. I climbed it and saw that someone went through before me. I climbed up and made up to the surface.

I looked around and saw someone in a black cloak running away. I slowly made my way to the cloaked person, but ran as soon as he ran. I tackled him, removed the cloak, and revealed Audrey.

"Audrey?" I questioned. She looked me and gave a shy smile. I helped her up, and we hid behind a dumpster. "What are you doing out of the cave?"

"I have to find my parents, and I not letting anyone stop me!" She quietly yelled out, but I quickly covered her mouth, and looked around.

"If I can't stop you, I might as well join you." I know how much she wants to save her parents, but I can help in any way.

"I know you want to help, but I want to do this alone."

"I suggest doing this at night, then you won't get caught as easily." I want her to be safe, even 'if' i can't help.

""Fine, and by the way, why are you up here?"

"I need to find more wood, it'll faster if you can help." She looked at me, and just like that we gather all the wood we could find.

When we made it back down to the cave, I am going to make sure I slept with one eye open.

Audrey POV

We all went to sleep, but I stayed up. I couldn't stop thinking of what Jay said to me, about how he wanted to help me event though I rejected him.

I made sure everyone was asleep, before I looked to where Carlos was. He was sleeping next to Dude, and the map was sticking out of his jacket pocket.

I quietly step over each sleeping shadow figure, and the dim fire provided some light. I accidentally kicked Jay, and didn't move. He didn't wake up, so I made my way over to Carlos.

I slowly took the map Mal drew out, and went to the entrance to the dungeon. I took a torch with me and looked at the map, when I heard a pebble rattle behind me. I turned and saw Jay.

"Before you say anything, you kind of woke me up." He quickly said. Jay walked up to me and took the torch.

"I told you I don't need your help."

"And you should know, I don't listen to almost anyone"

I felt so frustrated, but he is already here, what can I do know.

"I know you think that I'll just mess up on this, but you need me. I can take out the guards, steal the keys if needed, and other things I can't think of right now. But you have to trust me, you did it before."  He looked me in the eye, and I looked back. He does have a point, and he's right that I can't do this alone.

"I trust you."

"Just give me a-, wait, did you say that you trust me?"

"Well, yeah. You're right that I can't do this alone, and from what I know of you, you could be useful for helping me."

He looked at me, a little surprised, but then lead the way.

This time, it is my turn to save you, and I won't do it alone.
