Dear Alen,

I have these voices in my head, but it's not schizophrenia. I just happen hear all these negative comments that people have jabbed at me, all the time- whether they were recent or a comment from six years ago. I'm constantly feeling down about myself, and frustrated because the thoughts never stop. And then there's the guilt. I hate being sad, and feeling worthless when other people have it so much harder. You have kids with cancer, starving children in Africa, dysfunctional families, abuse, murder.... and through it all- I'm just sad. I'm just. depressed. Sometimes, it just gets too much to handle. Sincerely, Charlie x

Hi, Charlie!

First of all,

Just because other people have it worst than you, doesn't mean you can't feel sad. Everyone has problems, and sometimes, others take it harder, whatever it may be.

Often times, when this happens, it doesn't mean that you're doing something wrong - it means that you need to do actually do something. You have to do something that gets you cheerful and happy, and keep your thoughts in place. Sometimes, we use things as motivation to do something right, even if we don't choose to, and it happens!

I handle my depression a little different than other people. When you constantly feel down, and feel like you can't do anything right, or you can't do anything for that matter, just do something that makes you happy. It's different when you do something happy because it cheers you up, so you don't have to sit alone and feel more sad for yourself.

When you're thinking of an ugly word that people used to judge you, think of the opposite of that word, and tell yourself that, that's what you are. You're not who they say you are, you're who you say you are. It's based on you.

Use these words as your motivation, and show these people that you're better than them - so much better! I believe that you can do that, and you can stop these voices altogether because you've proved yourself right!

Just be cheerful and happy, and know that you are nowhere near who they say you are (unless you know, they say you're amazing because you are. I know that, for sure!)

Hope you have a nice day!

xo, alen.
