I just got back to the hotel and it's currently 4:30 in the afternoon. I had a good talk with Michele about my position regarding player interaction and I couldn't be happier, I know for a fact that nothing will get in the way of my job. I collapse on the firm hotel bed and rip my shoes off before tossing them so they land with a thud against the far wall. I'm dead tired. I decide to call my parents and let them know the good, great, news that I've experienced today.
"Hello Quincy!!" My mom answers on the third ring.
"Hey mom," I smile into the phone.
"Well how did it go today?? Don't leave anything out!"
"I got the job mom. I got the position of assistant athletic trainer for the Montreal Canadiens," I say excitedly into the phone.
"Everybody Quincy got the job!!" My mom shouts into the phone, obviously telling the rest of my family. I hear a roar of voices in the background and I laugh at the picture of my family in the kitchen right now. I explain to my family, the phone is now on speaker, my conversation with Michele just a few hours ago. I tell them how I start on Monday, that caused some concern, and what my job will entail. I also told them the situation regarding assistant and head athletic trainer and how in a year I could be promoted. Overall they were ecstatic for me and told me to continue working hard for my dreams.
"Alright well honey, not to damper the mood but where will you be living? You'll obviously need an apartment and somehow we'll need to get all of your stuff up there..." my mom rambles on after she takes the phone off of speaker.
"Don't worry mom. The other assistant athletic trainer, Caden, very coincidentally is from California too. We both need a place to stay. I'm going to call him after because I think we may look for a place together, he's very nice so don't worry. It's just easier if we stay together because of work, but trust me nothing will happen. And also with all of my stuff I may just ask you guys to ship basically my clothes up here because that's all I'll need. I'll be traveling with the team the whole time so I won't need too many things," I try to explain.
"You'll be rooming with a boy?? A boy you don't really know??" My mom asks worriedly.
"It's honestly fine mom. You can meet him if you want. Michele is the one who mentioned it, he thinks it'll be a good idea and I agree,"
"Okay," my mom sighs "call me when you figure it out and let me know if you need anything! I know you only packed for two days so I'll ship a box of clothes tonight so you can have them by Sunday."
"You're the best!" I exclaim into the phone. We end the conversation and I decide to call Caden as well, to get this all over with. I get up and go to my briefcase, pulling out the piece of paper with Caden's number on it.
"Hey it's Caden, who is this?" Caden answers the phone.
"Hey Caden it's Quincy, from the Canadiens?" I prompt.
"Oh hey Quincy!! What's up?"
"I'm just in my hotel room. I just finished talking to my parents and I was wondering if you wanted to get together tonight and talk about getting an apartment together? I know that sounds really weird, but I thought we talked about it earlier... " I trail.
"Yea that would be great! We probably need to figure this all out pretty soon anyway. And plus I would just be sitting in my hotel room the whole night otherwise," he responds.
"Sweet! Where are you staying?"
"The Sheraton,"
