BELLA'S POV

I walk down the deserted hallway looking over my shoulder to make sure no one follows me. Its been at least a couple of weeks since Caleb and Abby where sent down to the basement. Where they alive or where they...no no I musn't think like that! Once more I looked over my shoulder before pressing my ear against the basement door. I gulp and slow my breathing down, keeping it nice and steady. I try calming down my heart that's loudly beating against my ribs. Jacob strictly told me to stay away from the basement, but I couldn't just leave them down there to die. I might be shy and a crybaby but I'm not a cruel person! I quietly twist the doorknob hearing no sound from the basement. Opening it a crack, I look through seeing sold, dark wood stairs and cement floor with old brown blood stains. I scrunch my nose up in disgust at the stench, it smelled awful. I slip into the basement, slowly puting my foot on the top step, closing the basement door silently behind me. I crouch down and slwoly descend on the steps, making no noise in the process. I instantly see more doors, one was chained and pad-locked, that must be the way out. My bare foot comes in contact with the cold cement floor, instantly Ishivers run up my spine hearing a slight snore. I turn my head to see two men sleeping soundly together on a bed over the side. I tiptoe over to the chained door taking out a bobbi pin from my hair. One thing I learned at the orphange was to pick a lock. Slowly the chains fell to the floor and I looked around the basement while slowly opening the door. Some sunshine made its way through the crack, one of the men stirred. I stopped and my breathing hitched, my heart pounding against my chest. I willed it to slow and crept along the floor while the man went back to sleep. I kept my eyes on the floor so not to bump anything before I looked up. I couldn't help the gasp that ecaped my mouth and tears form in my eyes.

It was Caleb, wasn't it? It didn't even look like him, his hair was growing weirdly, looking like he got a horrible haircut.  Caleb's hands where nailed to a wooden post which was hanging from a pole above his head. He looked like Jesus, minus the crown of thorns and his feet being nailed as well. The nails looked like silver, which would kill him. Wait was he dead, I took cautious steps forward not seeing Caleb's chest rise up and down. Finally he took a shaggy breathe in and I sighed in relief. THank God he was still alive, I took out my small pocket knife and used one of them (don't know what its called) to rip the nails out of this hands. He groaned in pain, I looked over my shoulder at the sleeping men, okay they are still asleep. I caught Caleb before he could fall to the ground like a sack of potatoes. he was bleeding all over the place, maybe he wasn't able to heal himself because of all the silver in him. I layed him on the ground, he got up on his elbowws and started to crawl towards Abby. I let the tears come out when I see her, she was even worse than Caleb, laying on the ground like the dead. She might actually be dead. Caleb managed to crawl over the Abby and move the last strands of her matted hair away from her face. She wasn't chained or anything, most likely because she was too weak to move. I run over to him and stop him handing him a fresh pair of clothes I stole before coming down. He looked at me through dead eyes, not even able to sit up to put them on. I knelt down and carefully sat Abby up, she opened her eyes ever so slightly. I smiled calmly at her and took out an overgrown t-shirt slipping it ever so carefully over her head. She winces from the contact and I help her put on some underwear and pants. After that I pull out some meat I managed to steal from the kitchen, they ate while I watched the men sleeping, they weren't very good at keeping an eye on their prisoners.
