"Will you, Arthur Kirkland, be my boyfriend?"
Arthur's cheeks were the same shade as the roses in front of him. His heart was thumping so fast in his chest and he couldn't gather his thoughts. Alfred glanced up at him hopefully.
"Well?" Arthur's eyes flicked around the room, half of the people were staring at them, smiling, smirking, laughing.

"It won't be soon until everyone hates you,"

He spotted Francis' face in the crowd and something clicked in his brain.
"Is this..." he stared down at his feet "is this a joke?" He blinked, tears pooling in his eyes.
"Artie I-" panic started to rise in Alfred's stomach as Arthur got to his feet and ran to the door, shoving it open with all his strength. Alfred didn't chase after him. His arm fell to his side and he dropped the roses. It was as if his heart had broken into a thousand tiny pieces. He clutched the space on his shirt where it was and struggled not to cry. It had all happened so fast.
"Arthur..." a tiny smile formed "You won't lose me that easily." Heroes don't cry. Heroes help those who are crying.

The cold was numbing Arthur's body as he stumbled home, vision slightly blurred by tears. He knew it. Alfred could never like him. Surely he just hung around because he felt sorry for him. Pity. Arthur slammed through his front door and ran to his room before anyone could stop him. He stared up at the ceiling where his old lampshade hung and tried to unravel Francis' plan.
He was going to set him up with someone and make it seem like he was cheating on Alfred... maybe? He remembered the look on Francis' face. Amused. Even when he stood and left...
Arthur had to put a hand over his own mouth to stop himself from yelling. He'd played the perfect little pawn on the chess board. The one boy who faked love to see the heartbreak on the victim's face. Heavy sobs shook his fragile body.
"Why?" He whispered "I fell for it... you win." His phone lit up and he reached out to read it.

Alfred.F.Jones

Arthur wiped his tears. He could hardly believe his eyes.

You didn't even say bye.

Oh. Arthur dropped his head with dissapointment and guilt.
"Even Alfred hates me now..." tears rolled effortlessly off his face, creating little patches on his bedsheets.
He lifted his phone to his face again and typed out a message.

I'm sorry.

His finger hovered over send for a while before he deleted it all and began to sob again. He really messed this up.

There were yells from the stairs and the sound of someone tripping and hitting a part of their body on something. Arthur could hear footsteps nearing his door and watched the handle. The door flew open, a single tear rolled off his cheek as it did.
"Alfred?" His voice cracked at the end of the word. Alfred rushed to hug him.
"I wasn't joking." The hug lasted longer than expected.
"I'm sorry, I fell into Francis' trap I thou-" Alfred silenced him with a finger to his lips.
"Shhh. Don't wanna wake the babies." He pointed to Liam, asleep with half his body in the hallway, then to Allistor who was passed out on the sofa. Alfred lead Arthur out of the house, never once letting go of his hand.
"Alfred you can let go now..." Arthur stumbled over his undone shoelace.
"You're not losing me that easily!" Alfred started running until they got to his house.
"Amelia's not gonna be back for a couple of hours." He slouched against the locked front door.
"So let's try this again." Alfred finally let go of Arthur's hand.
"Be my boyfriend?" His confidence was running high. He watched as Arthur stopped giggling, his face calming. He raised a hand to meet with Alfred's and entertwined their fingers. Arthur's chest moved slowly, breathing in and out.
"Yes." Their eyes met for a brief moment. Alfred couldn't hold in his exitement.
"Thank you Artie! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" Alfred pulled Arthur into a hug, practically crushing him. Arthur hugged him back. He felt so stable, so secure. Was this what he needed? They pulled apart from their hug and just stared at each other.
"Y'know, I never said anything before but your eyes are beautiful." Alfred stated, keeping a stern glare. Arthur blushed even more.
"Flirty much?" He rocked on his feet. There was a long and contempt silence. They didn't have to say anything.
"What should we do now?" Arthur asked calmly.
"I guess we return to the party," he quickly glanced down at his frie- no, boyfriend "if you're okay with it, that is." He felt Arthur's grip on his hand tighten.
"I'm alright with it." He smiled softly. "Plus we're going to freeze to death if we stay out here."
