Alfred was fairly quiet in school, he couldn't get Arthur's terrified face out of his head. His cries rang through his skull.
"Alfred where are you!?" Alfred found himself drifting away in his own thoughts.
"Bonjour Alfred!" Francis placed a hand on Alfred's shoulder, making him jump and scowl.
"I'm not up for your games Francis." He stood, shoving his schoolbooks into his bag and pulling it over his shoulder.
"But mon ami? You seem to be alone right now, non?" Francis smiled as Alfred's stern expression faded to a painful expression.
"I have to leave." Alfred slipped out of the already empty classroom and tried to walk away from the Frenchman before he could say anything about him or Arthur.
"Is something wrong with your little Artie? Oh how awful it would be if he suffered." Alfred just started sprinting, leaving Francis behind slightly shocked.
"ALICE!" Alfred yelled, waving his arm at Alice who was wearing a modified school uniform with a long skirt. Francis stared at the girl, wondering who she was. Alfred took Alice's hand in his own and Alice raised her eyebrows as Alfred talked endlessly about nothing. He suddenly whispered into her ear.
"I need you to act like we're together." Alice dropped the other's hand.
"What!?" She tried to keep her voice down. Alfred laughed then put on a normal facial expression.
"We have a follower. He beats up Arthur and I have a plan to make it stop." Alice took his hand again, acting as normal as she could.
"What should I do to make this work?" Alfred grinned and pointed to his cheek.
"Kiss me!" Alice blushed furiously.
"But what about Artie?" Alfred laughed before replying.
"He'll understand, trust me." Alice had a wave of doubt then stood on her toes to give Alfred a kiss on the cheek.
Francis smirked. He had seen it all and laughed to himself.
"What do we have here?" He whispered, thinking he had uncovered some kind of secret relationship between Alfred and a new girl. Francis spun on his heel and rushed off to tell people he knew had it out for Alfred.
"Mind telling me what that was about?" Alice asked as the pair walked into the hospital. Alfred rubbed the back of his neck and laughed awkwardly.
"Well that guy with blonde long hair, about Artie's height. He's a douche. Don't let him come near you." Alice looked at her feet.
"Oh." Alfred's smile suddenly popped onto his face when he saw Owne leaving Arthur's room, grinning and laughing to himself.
"Owne! My buddy! How's Artie?" Owne gave a little smile. To be homest, Alfred scared him. After what happened when they first met, he was afraid to anger the stronger guy.
"He's great. He kept making jokes about blind people then a doctor came to remove the bandages and kicked me out, they should be off now so you can go and see him." Alice pushed the door open silently, scribbling something down on a piece of paper. Alfred followed her after waving goodbye to Owne.
Alice made no sound as she approached the doctor, showing him the note. Arthur had his eyes shut, a slight red mark where bandages must have been to help his eyes.
"I'm not opening them." He muttered. The doctor sighed, smiling slightly as Alfred understood the plan Alice had cooked up and knelt beside the bed, his face in line with Arthur's.
"Alright, well turn your head slightly to the right for me." Alfred smiled at the angry look on Arthur's face before speaking.
"Heya Artie." Arthur's eyes shot open and he leant foreward, cupping Alfred's face in his hands as he kissed him softly. He slid off the bed and onto Alfred's lap, peppering his face with kisses. He stopped and just stared into his bright blye eyes which were practically glittering.
"Hi." Arthur murmured so quietly only Alfred could hear. Alfred grinned and stared into Arthur's eyes as he stared intensely back.
"I can see you." He whispered. Alfred kissed his nose in reply. It was horrifying for Arthur to not see anything. Even though it was only for a few days it let his anxieties build up until he wanted to scream but now he was staring into a deep blue shimmering ocean and he never wanted to look away.
The doctor cleared his throught and earnt a glare from Arthur, who was still clinging onto his boyfriend.
"Well Arthur is fine but he will need someone to assist him for a while and will have to leave lessons in school earlier to avoid crowds." The doctor sighed again. "And for crying out loud how many times have I told you to stay off of that leg!" Arthur shuffled a little on Alfred's lap.
"What's wrong with Artie's leg?" Alice sat beside the two, not too close but at a friendly distance.
"The muscles have become frail and need time to heal, about a month or so. Arthur will need crutches but we will provide him with those." Arthur cuddled into Alfred's chest. All he wanted was some alone time with his boyfriend. Arthur had been hospitalised for a week and blind for three days, to be held in his lover's arms was a dream come true.
"Who are you two and what are you in relation to Arthur?" Alfred bundled Arthur up in his arms and beamed.
"Alfred.F.Jones, Arthur Kirkland's boyfriend!" He doctor scribbled something down then turned to Alice.
"I'm guessing you're a friend?" This made Alice jolt.
"Pardon me? I am Arthur's sister. Alice Kirkland." The doctor checked through pages before glancing at Alice with a suspicious look on his face.
"Arthur has only three brothers." Arthur clutched onto Alfred's sleeve.
"She is my sister." He spoke up "I thought she would never come back so I never told anyone about her." A wave of guilt rushed over Alice and she held her hands behind her back, digging her nails into her palms.
"Arthur I'm so sorr-" Alice was cut off.
"It's okay. A nurse read out your note, he was really nice and even helped me when I heard FMB again." Arthur's eyes suddenly filled with tears and he retreated to the comfort of Alfred's chest again.
"Artie what's wrong?" Alfred tucked some hair out of Arthur's face to see him more angry then sad.
"I can't be a nurse when I'm older. They said that someone who has frequent panic attacks cannot work under pressure with distressed or broken patients." Alfred kissed the top of his head.
"I told them I'm fine but they told me to go be a dancer or something" Arthur's eyes teared up but only Alfred could see. He nuzzled his face into Arthur's hair.
"Artieee..." Arthur groaned in reply before twisting round and glaring at the doctor.
"I'll be damn fine!" He snapped and the doctor clicked his pen loudly.
"Alright. You just need to fill out these forms then he can leave." Arthur's eyes lit up a little and he moved his arms to hook around Alfred's neck. Alfred stood amd carried Arthur bridal style while signing the occasional paper.
"Artie, they btought your crutches." Alice smiled, holding the crutches in one arm and poking Arthur's cheek with the other. Alfred set Arthur down and helped him balance at first before letting him stand on his own. Arthur wobbled slightly, resisting the urge to stand on his left leg.
"Now try walking," Alfred suggested happily. Arthur placed the crutches in front of him then tried to take a step foreward. He repeated the slow and tiring process a few times.
"I-I'm doing it!" Arthur smiled a little before one of his arms slipped and sent him toppling to the floor. He sat in shock before rubbing the arm he landed on, his smile completely gone. Alice's heart skipped a beat. Arthur was acting like when they were little, he wasn't scowling but merely not smiling. Alfred helped Arthur stand and kissed him on the cheek. Arthur was suddenly reluctant to move.
"Alfred!" He called, standing rigidly a few steps behind the two.
"You got this Iggy!" Alfred stopped and beamed at him.
"But what if I fall again?" At that moment Alfred swore he felt his heart burst. He rushed over and scooped Arthur up, holding the crutches in his other arm.
"I'll be your hero Artie!"
