Peeta's POV-
I wake up to the sound of Effie screaming in my ear. "Up, up, up! We have a big day today!" She yelps in her capital accent.

I manage to prop myself out of bed and comb through my messy hair and brush my teeth. I splash some cool water on my face to wake myself up from the horrific dream I had about Katniss falling to her death when the District 2 boy slashed her with a sword.

When I come out of the bathroom, a training outfit is laid  out on my bed. It's another black outfit with streaks of red and it has my District number on the back.

I quickly get dressed and walk downstairs. When I get there I see that Katniss and Haymitch are at the table feasting on breakfast. I take a seat next to Katniss and she greets me with a half smile. I smile back and sit down.

"So, today is the first day of training." Haymitch says stuffing his mouth with sausage. "You will have three days to train and then you need to wow the game makers. "I'm not sure they'll stick around for District 12 tributes." Katniss snaps. "They will." She nods. "Are you guys ready to head down?" We both give him a nod and he escorts us down to the training center.

The training center is almost like a garage. Except it's a whole lot bigger. It's filled with weapons like swords, spears, and bows. I don't think this is safe. One tribute may snap and use a sword or something to kill them before they even step foot in the arena. I ignore the physical activity and go over to the camouflage. It's like decorating the cakes back home.

I miss home. The smell of fresh bread. My father. Even my horrible mother. I miss baking and decorating and all the things I grew up around.

As I'm painting my arm to look like a tree Katniss comes over to me. "Hey." She says. "Hi." She takes a look at my arm and glances at me. "How did you do that?" I smile. "I used to decorate the cakes down at the bakery." I feel a tear starting to form, but I pinch my knee to prevent it.

Stop it Peeta! She won't even want to talk to you if you cry!

"That's cool." She says. I just smile. We stand their for a while and then I tell her I'm going to go do some physical stuff. She and I both part.

I get in line for what looks like monkey bars, but it's more twisted around.

It's finally my turn so I hop on the ladder and jump to the first bar. I bring one arm in front of the other.

That's it! Just keep doing it!

Suddenly I get this nervous sensation in my stomach. Everyone's watching me. What if I fall? What if I make a fool of myself?

Without even realizing, I give in when I'm halfway across. I fall to the ground. My lower body is exploding with pain. It's almost like someone is pounding me with a hammer. I let out a small cry of pain, but I manage to crawl away with the little bit of strength I have left.

From behind me I can hear snickers coming from a group of tributes. I turn around and of course I see the careers staring down at me with their cold eyes. It's almost like staring in the eyes of death.

Katniss comes over to me and helps me up. "Thanks." I say. She nods and walks away. I stand up and decide to go try something else.

I go over to a net. All you have to do is climb it. That shouldn't be too hard.

I put my foot on the net and it shakes slightly. I keep my balance and begin my decent to the top of the net. As I progress it become more shaky and before I know it I'm falling to the ground. The same feeling when I fell off the bars goes through me.

I can see a blurred figure walking over to me. "Go throw that metal thing over their." My vision is returning and I see Katniss kneeling down by me and the careers are snickering at my foolish actions. "What? No! Haymitch said we're not supposed too-" She shakes her head. "I don't care what Haymitch said. Those guys are looking at you like your a needle. Throw it." I give her a small nod and manage to prop myself up with the little bit of strength I have and walk over to the weight that rests on a stand.

It's medal and it weighs at least 75 pounds by the looks of it. I pick it up and it's very heavy, my back is hunched as I bring it to the center of the training room, but I manage to carry it with one hand.

I'm at the center of the room now and I grab onto the weight with both of my hands. I can feel the careers eight eyes watching me like hawks. I bring my arm back and throw the giant monstrous, weight across the room. It hits another stand with wheels on it and the stand rolls about a foot backwards. I exhale and and turn back to the careers. I can here Cato whisper two words to the three other careers, two words that boost my confidence, two words that make me think I have a chance at winning the games. "Not bad."

"Alright! Day one of training is complete! You may go back to your compartments!" I walk back to our "compartment" with Katniss and have a delicious dinner to celebrate my accomplishment.
