Chapter Twenty Four

Peeta's POV-
We walk around a fourth a mile until we find who was killed. Foxface. When we find her, she has a handful of the deadly berries and her mouth is covered in black berry juice.

"I never even knew she was following me." I say as I look down at her lifeless body and stare at her eyes that show no sign of life. "She's clever." Katniss says picking up more nightlock to put in her tiny pouch. "Too clever." I say.

My leg which was brutally cut by Cato's sword down to the bone, is starting to get sore from all the activity we've been doing today. "Katniss...." She flips around to look at me. "Can we go back to the cave?" She thinks this through for a minute, but it's safe, because no one knows where we are hiding, and I don't ask for much. If we don't, maybe I can just rest for a moment. "Fine." She says with a pinch of uncertainty in her tone.

We walk back to the cave and soon we reconstruct our old living quarters and I rest.

Katniss lays her head on my chest and slowly falls asleep. I'm about to let sleep take me too, but then I hear it. A sound of death. A sound of utter destruction. The cannon. I stare up at the sky through the cracks of the rocks and see the capital seal appear in the sky, and then, Thresh. Thresh is dead.

How will I break this news to Katniss? She jerks awake at the horrible sound.

"Who was it?" She asks me, looking up. "Thresh." I reply. She's taken aback, but then pulls it back together. "Come on. Let's go." She says a little too harshly.

We exit the cave and we don't even bother to cover our tracks, because we have to find Cato. The sky begins to darken. "Why is it getting all dark?" I ask, looking at Katniss. "Must be in a hurry to end it." We travel for about two minutes and then I hear it. The crack of a stick. There is life somewhere, and who or what is meant to kill us.

"What was that?" I ask with fear in my voice.
"It's the finale."
