Alvin had never thought of his "superior thinking skills", as his teachers called it, as a super power. He just thought more than the other kids, that was all. Today that, and many other things, would change. His dad had left for work before he had woken up, as he did everyday, leaving Alvin with the house to himself. His indecision over what to make for breakfast was interrupted with a loud knock. Alvin hadn't heard this knock before, it was like father's just with more vigor and energy. He opened the door and a man in a business suit holding a briefcase in his left hand greeted him.
"Is this the Wharwood residence?"
The man's voice was monotone giving the impression that he had rehearsed this many times. As Alvin slowly nodded he added-
"Is Mr. Wharwood home?"
It was said with a note of boredom as if he already knew the answer. He didn't trust the fact that this stranger had waited until Alvin was at home alone, so instead of answering as the stranger obviously expected him to, he lied-
"Yeah, hes upstairs."
The sudden look of alertness told him that this man knew his dad's work routine but had not witnessed him leave that morning. The man turned towards the driveway and turned back looking more confident. He pushed past Alvin and sat on the couch. Alvin was too curious to intervene, not that he could have done much anyway.
"Alvin, my name is Nate Gilliam, i'm here courtesy of the U.S. Government to inform you that you are not fully human."
Please review, it only takes a second :)
