I woke up after the flashback ended. I was only 13 during that time and since then my life hasn't been that bad but it hasn't been so good either. Soon after my mother and I had gone home, some vampires found out we were there. My mother begged them not to kill us and that we would listen to their leader's laws for humans. The vampires were shocked by my mother's response to their arrival so they gave her a book of laws and let her live. My mother and I lived a peaceful life. We were pretty wealthy for a human family, too. I still lived in my house in the meadow with my mother. She managed to get a job as the royal seamstress.

(A/N Oh and by the way ever since the vampires came they changed the whole place. Now everything is old-time royalty based stuff like balls, gowns, castles, and tuxedoes instead of tights for men.)

Today is the worst day of my life though. Today is my 18th birthday. You see, when the vampires took over, the humans got revenge and killed the order of the fang but it was too late. The order of the fang had already passed the throne to their sons. The order of the fang is made up of five people and now they had passed that to their five sons. "The five princes" were devastated to see their dead fathers and the humans who caused it were dead before they even had the chance to scream. These five princes have to find their princesses someday because that's the rule of the order.

Within 50 years of ruling, all order of the fang members must find a bride regardless of whether she is human or not. If not, the consequence will be death and a replacement from the closest male relative. The five princes made a rule that every year there will be a ball and all girls from ages 18-25 will have to attend. That means I have to attend. When going to the ball your going to have to look fancy so every year once your 18, a royal seamstress comes to your house and dress you up with perfect hair, makeup, and a gown.

Only two princes have found their brides. There's Zayn and Perrie. Also Louis and Eleanor.

I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom mirror. I always thought I looked hideous. I don't know why but maybe it is low self esteem or me just being afraid of one of the vampires choosing me...I don't know. My mom always tells me, "You're beautiful Keri. Never think that your not." Yep. That's my name. Keri. I have long and wavy brown hair that reaches about one inch above my belly button. I have fairly tanned skin from playing in the meadow a lot and my eyes are a light brown color. My lips are just the right size, not too big, not too small, and a light shade of pink.

I looked at the clock by my bed. 9 a.m. My seamstress will be coming in 5 hours to get me ready for the ball tonight. It's kind of weird how my 18th birthday ended up on the day of the ball. I sighed. I walked to the closet and grabbed a simple gown. Just like in the old days. The vampires had taken out all my clothes and replaced them with simple dresses, night gowns, and fancy dresses for parties. I feel like I'm living the 1800's. The simple dress I got was a navy blue long sleeved buttoned dress that had white lace on the edges and showed a bit of cleavage.

I undressed out of my light pink night gown and stepped into the shower. I turned on the shower and let the water run over me. I grabbed some coconut scented shampoo and began washing my hair. I rinsed my hair, put on some conditioner, rinsed, washed my body, and rinsed once more. I stepped out of the shower and grabbed the towel, quickly wrapping it around my body. I blow dried my hair and put on the dress. I didn't know what hair style I should do so I just let my wavy hair flow down naturally. I don't like heavy makeup or makeup at all so I just left it at that.

I walked downstairs to go get some breakfast when I see my mother crying. I rushed over to her. " What's wrong? Don't cry," I said in a hushed tone. "Keri," she said in between sobs, "Promise you won't be mad." " I promise," I said. "Your father. He was always busy cause he was working for The Order of the Fang. Your father is a vampire." I just stood there shocked by her words. My father? A vampire? All these question led to one question I just had to ask. I reluctantly asked, " Does that mean I'm a half vampire." She looked at me with truthful eyes and said, " Yes."
