Dress Up (Chp. 3)

     " Mother, why didn't you tell me this before," I said tears brimming my eyes. She said,  "Because on a half vampire's 18th birthday their powers are fully developed." She wiped the tears from my eyes. I forced myself to stop crying. "Powers? Do half vampires have powers? " I asked. Mom nodded and said, " Half vampires have the same abilities as vampires except half vampires can survive on either blood or human food. Plus you have smaller fangs."

      I sighed and looked down. I knew all the abilities of vampires since mom told me. She said I needed to know for my own good. Vampires have super speed, and super strength. Plus they have one special power. It could be anything like invisibility, mind reading, mind control, and extra super speed. Those are only a few of the powers they could have. I looked up at mom. She smiled weakly at me. Then something strange happened. All of a sudden I could read Mom's thoughts. She was thinking about a vampire taking me away from her. I stopped when I noticed what was happening.

     "Mom," I said a bit shaky. " Yes Keri," she said. " I can hear your thoughts. I think my special power is mind reading," I said with full confidence this time. Mom looked at me with a bit of worry but soon it disappeared. " Honey I-" we were interrupted by the ring of the doorbell. I went to the door and opened the door to find a women looking at me. The woman said sternly, " Hello. I am Rose and I am your seamstress for the ball tonight. I had to come a bit early because there was some confusion in the time of the appointments."

     "Hello. I am Keri. Come on in. Do you need help with that?" I said pointing at the mini wardrobe she was rolling in. " No thank you dear." Rose said. Rose looked older than 25 but a bit younger than 35. She had pretty curly auburn hair and pale skin. Her face had many freckles, light green eyes, and fairly sized lips that were a bold pink. She was wearing a similar dress to mine except her dress was the color red.

      She managed to get the mini wardrobe through the door and placed it in the living room. Rose closed all the curtains in the room and set up the clothes, makeup, and hair supplies. She called me over. I told mom to go upstairs and take a rest as I walked past her. I made my way to the living room when she told me to undress all the way until I had only a bra and panty on. She started to measure me and after that looked at my face.

      " Aha!" Rose said. I looked at her curiously. Rose took out a dress from the mini wardrobe. Once she pulled it out I saw it was gorgeous. She handed me a strapless golden bra and the same color for the panty. I quickly changed into them and slipped on the dress. It looked perfect for me. It was a strapless white dress with gold down the middle. The middle of the dress was printed with a vine design that went diagonally down and across the chest, to the waist, to the knees, until it reached the bottom. A thin gold ribbon separated the top part of the dress from the bottom. It flowed down beautifully down to the ankles.

      Rose picked up a pair golden heels and handed them to me. I put them on. They were thankfully comfortable so now I won't have to worry about my feet hurting. " The dress looks perfect. Thank you." I told Rose. She said, " We're not done yet. I still have to do your hair." She walked up to me and brushed my hair getting all the tangles out. Then she took the top half of my hair and put it in a perfect bun. She let the rest flow down. I told her I didn't like makeup so she put only mascara and lip gloss. I thanked her one last time and she left.
