Chapter 7- 4-Man Mission

[Flashback]

“Stop Yuri! Get a hold of yourself!” my sensei had screamed.

I walked through the village quickly, clutching my bag. I got stares as I went. News travelled fast. Hot tears ran down my cheeks. I didn't mean for it to happen.

We were preparing for Genin exams in Kumogakure. I was sparring with my team mate, Hiro. I never liked him. He threw a couple of kunai at me with hate-filled eyes. I dodged them easily but he had used one of his bloodline abilities. I realized too late. He created a string of chakra through them and because of the angle he had thrown them they wrapped around my neck. He pulled them hard. I clutched at the chakra strings and fell to my knees. The strings were unmovable and dug at my neck. I couldn't breathe.

“Hiro, that's enough,” my sensei called out. But Hiro didn't listen. He was doing this on purpose. A flare of anger engulfed me and before I knew it I heard a screech and saw a flash of light. The chakra strings suddenly loosened and Hiro was on the floor. My body had electrified itself and it passed down the chakra strings to Hiro, who was still holding them.

“Stop Yuri! Get a hold of yourself!” Sensei screamed. But I didn't know how to stop. I didn't even know how it happened.

Hiro suffered second degree burns. He never forgave me. And neither did anyone else.

“Hold on there Yuri!” a boy from my class called from behind me. I was on my way home after the exam. I turned around. His name was Tetsuya. He was Hiro's brother. He was with two others. They didn't look friendly. I turned back and walked faster, nearly breaking out into a run. But they were older and faster than me and caught up easily.

“Where are you going so fast?” Tetsuya said, grabbing my bag and pulling on my jet black hair.

“Leave me alone!” I cried, tears flowing freely. I was already upset from what happened today.

“You think I can let you get away with hurting my brother?” he said to me and pushed me to the ground. He took my bag and emptied the contents onto the floor. Then his friend got hold of my forehead protector and yanked it from my head. They stamped on it, each of them in turn. His other friend held me down so I was powerless to stop it.

“If you know what's best for you, leave the village. You can't be a ninja,” Tetsuya said.

“I'm not afraid of you,” I said back to him, defiantly looking up into his eyes.

“What are you gonna do? Electrocute me?” he said and laughed bitterly, “Nobody wants you here, Yuri. You're a monster. You’re uncontrollable. And look at your eyes. They’re violet. My parents were right. You’re not normal.”

For some reason they left me alone after that. In time I took his advice anyway and left the village when Itachi found me.

By dawn, we were packed and headed off again towards the Hidden water village.

As we neared the entrance to the village, I could see the representative standing at the rendezvous point by the gates, with two Hidden Cloud Jounin. You might have thought I would have been worried that someone from my village might recognize me. But I was a little girl when I left. I had changed a lot since then.

“Ikuri-san,” Kakashi sensei said to the representative, “We are the ninja sent from Konoha to protect you on your journey to our village.”

Ikuri, who was a middle-aged man. He had glasses and who wore a wide brimmed sun hat over long jet-black hair tied in a ponytail. He bowed in reply, “I thank you.”
