Chapter 27- The Hunt for Freedom

Some of the benefits of being a spy were that you could often use the information that you gather for your own benefit at some time in the future.

After I played the role of the innocent Genin in Konoha, I had one or two opportunities to look around so I was familiar with the area. Konoha possessed a huge general library which was already well-known, and also a smaller study where the potentially dangerous information was kept. That part was usually under lock and key and protected by jutsus that could kill instantly.

And this was the library that I wanted to access. It would almost certainly contain information that would help me find out a weakness for Rain, or at least a suitable way to incapacitate him in time to free the others.

Fortunately I learned a jutsu from Itachi that revealed which techniques were used to seal that library. Although, even after I found out what they were, it would take me some time to unravel them without setting off any traps hidden within them.

It took a while for me to get enough time away from Rain, and come up with enough excuses to be gone for several hours at a time. But over a few days I finally started to make progress on cracking the library. I told no one of my efforts, not even Kisame. As faithful as he was, if Rain suspected something, he would be the first in line to be tortured.

Once inside I knew it wouldn’t be easy to find. And that every book that I uncovered could have another trap jutsu just waiting to be set off.

But knowing that any minute Rain would decide to execute everyone that I ever cared about spurred me on to keep trying, and most of all gave me the patience so that I wouldn’t put myself in danger.

One evening I unearthed a scroll that was a high level transformation jutsu. It allowed you to swap minds with anyone, and if done correctly, could go back after a set amount of time. But any slip up, would leave you permanently switched. It was the ultimate kawarimi no jutsu.

The minds would be switched, but nothing else. Chakra levels, power and strength would be the same so it would be completely undetectable.

I had been thinking about it for sometime now. I felt that I had to go to the dungeon and see Itachi at least once; and maybe get a clue from him to help me free them.

I kept begging Kisame but he resisted, saying it was too dangerous; that it would never work; that Rain would see straight through it. Of course it was dangerous, I told him. But it would definitely work. He and I both knew I was strong enough to pull it off.

Eventually I wore him down with the promise that it would only be for an hour. An hour was all I needed.

I was in the hidden library, sitting cross-legged on the damp floor with the scroll unrolled out in front of me.

According the plan, Kisame was in the dungeon. It was meal time for the prisoners.

Taking a deep breath and unlocking the curse seal to give myself more chakra , I started the jutsu; performing the handseals, placing one of Kisame’s scales on the scroll and then bit my finger creating an Underworld seal on the parchment.

Immediately the air seemed to swirl, and my vision went dark. I blinked a few times and came to the conclusion it was dark because I was underground. Looking around at the dark stones, I realised it had worked. I patted myself down and saw I was in the dungeon.
