Chapter 16-Intentions Revealed

A sudden noise from above made us jump.

“Someone is here,” Sasuke whispered. Another creak of the floorboards upstairs made me hold my breath.

“Who else knows of this place?” I asked Sasuke.

He thought for a moment, “No one.”

Now that was worrying. I stood up, “How do we get out of here Sasuke?”

Sasuke headed off to the left and starting pushing a bookshelf, “A secret entrance and exit. I don’t know where it ends up though.”

I helped him move the bookshelf and he jumped through, taking the books we were reading with him, indicating for me to follow.

I heard the trapdoor open and then footsteps coming down the stairs. I paused, realizing the chakra signature was familiar. Out of the shadows I recognized the silhouette and spiked silver hair. It was Kakashi.

“Go on without me, I’ll meet you later,” I said to Sasuke quickly and shut the bookshelf.

“Sayu-!” I heard just before it slammed shut. It couldn’t be opened from the outside.

It was best that Sasuke stayed out of this if it ended in a fight.

“Who was that?” Kakashi asked.

“Sasuke. We were researching his Clan.” I answered.

He nodded and looked down, “Tsunade-sama wants to see you.”

“Why?”

“She has a few questions. Also to take care of that curse seal.”

I touched my neck instinctively and winced. It was still sensitive.

“How did you know I was here?” I asked.

Kakashi shrugged, “I know Sasuke. He would’ve come here eventually. Although it was a guess at whether he would trust you enough to bring you along. And I guess he does.”

I shrugged, “Kakashi-sensei, I need to go back to Akatsuki.”

Kakashi took a few steps towards me, and I could make his face out more clearly in the glowing candle light.

“Why?”

“I’m the only one who can stop them. They won’t stop until they get what they want.”

He put his arms on my shoulders and came closer, “I don’t know what it is that you are dealing with on your own, but we can help you. You know we don’t want to hurt you.”

I nodded and wriggled out of his grasp, “If you know too much, it won’t matter. I need to fix this alone.”

His reached for me again and quickly pulled me towards him in an embrace, “The Hokage knows you are hiding something. She wants to know how you got your power of Lightning. If you don’t let me help you, I won’t know how to save you. You can trust me.”
