~Kayla's POV~
Bouncing my leg had become an accustomed nervous habit for me, and biting my nails was a sure give away. My stomach felt uneasy and it was hard to keep my mind set straight; all I could think about was the fucked up day ahead of me.
Pattie booked my flight at 10, promising me I wouldn't be arriving at the same time as Justin who was supposed to be at the house by nine. It made me so anxious knowing I'd have to see him in less than five hours, and the fact that I'll be around him for the next week made the pain set in a little deeper.
You know when you dread something so much to the point that you wonder if any given situation could possibly be worse? This is one hundred percent the one thing I'd never make myself do if I weren't doing it for Pattie. I don't want to see Justin, not even a little bit. He's not the same person anymore, and I have zero interest to get to know the person he's become.
I took a glance around me and when I didn't notice any eyes diverted toward me I reached in my bag for my flask. Taking a swig, I rested it back in my purse quickly.
"Flight 1279 to Ontario, Canada group A will now be boarding." A woman's voice sounded over the speaker, and I was quick to get in line and on the plane.
I was sat in the aisle seat next to a teenage couple who could not for the lives of themselves keep their hands off of one another. Constant giggles and "I love you's" were expressed through both of them throughout the entire flight, and when we finally landed I couldn't have been more ready to get off the plane.
I retrieved my suitcase from the upper hand bin, being one of the first people off of the plane. The only thing I was remotely excited about was seeing Ryan and Chaz, who Pattie promised would be the ones to pick me up. I asked for them specifically, knowing they would be able to relax me on the ride home.
"KAYLA!!!" My name fell from their mouths as if it had been waiting there for months, and seeing them run toward me possessed a huge smile on my face.
They embraced me into their arms, causing all of my stress to wash away.
"I missed you guys so much," I mumbled as my arms remained wrapped around them.
"Fuck, don't make me cry," Chaz joked, shooting an emphasized frown my way. A smile overtook my face and I hugged him once more, finally feeling like I'm home. At least I have my two best friends with me through this, and thats what this trip needs to be about.
We exchanged quick "how have you been's" and "how's college" and a few natural I-haven't-seen-you-in-a-while greetings before Chaz got bored of our "normal people" talk and insisted we get going.
It didn't take long to get a cab, and it didn't take much longer for me to notice the streets we were driving down. Snow perfectly covered the ground and sloped over the mountains in the distance, making me smile wider with each mile we drove by. I never realized how much I love how beautiful all the snow is until I moved to California where the coldest it gets is fifty degrees. No more palm trees, just mountains and slopes covered in pure white slush, and I couldn't be happier to be back in my element.
Ryan nudged me. "Happy to be back?"
I smiled softly, resting my head on his shoulder as the drive went on.
