The next night was Friday night and Riley met Maya after school.
"My place?" She asked. Maya nodded and they walked off to the subway.
As they were riding the subway, Maya noticed a man enter. He walked up and held onto the same pole as Riley and Maya. He nodded to her and she cowardly nodded to him.
"Hey, I've seen you." Said Riley. "At the bakery. With Ms.Hart. Are you her boyfriend?"
"We've been on and off over the years."
"So you guys know each other." Maya picked at the metal pole with her fingernail. The man nodded and then pat Maya on the back, making her tense up.
"This is our stop." Said Riley. "Bye, sir."
Maya left the subway station quickly. Riley ran after her.
"Why are you going so quickly?" Maya slowed down to Riley's speed.
"How long have you known him for?"
Maya didn't answer. "Okay, well, show me with your fingers, how old were you?" Maya held up 8 fingers. Riley nodded and then they walked the rest of the way in silence.
