Cory pushed the door open and ran into the girls room after Riley. When he entered, Riley was crying and starring at the body on the ground in just her t-shirt and underwear with blood around her.
"Call the police!" He screamed to Riley as he ran to her. Riley called the police in panic and a short period of time, which seemed like forever, Maya was in a stretcher, being rushed into an ambulance.
"Stay out, sir." Said a man, pushing him back. Several of the neighbors that had heard the gunshots had come out. Maya knew them all and Riley would have recognized some of them but was so distressed. "Back away." Said the officer. Riley held her dads hand.
"You don't understand. I know her very well."
"I'm sorry, sir, but you can not go." Someone closed the doors in the back and the ambulance immediately drove off.
"Can we meet her there?" Asked Riley.
"Hold on a second. Stay here." He ran into the building, into her apartment, and into her room. Riley followed him anyways. He grabbed her backpack and pulled out the sketchbook.
"Come one." He grabbed his daughters hand and lead her out. They ran to his car.
"Can I see the sketchbook."
"Not yet."
"Why? That's not fair, I'm her best friend."
"I don't know what's in it Riley. I've seen glimpses of some of the drawings. I don't want them to upset you."
"Fine, but I get to see it after."
