Maya sobbed in her room as she laid in her bed, her clothes a bit messed up from just throwing them back on. She could hear the door to the apartment hit the wall as David left the apartment, not caring to lock the door. Her phone buzzed. She weakly grabbed it. There were 36 texts and 9 calls from Riley along with several others from her friends. She put her phone down and continued to sob.
"Maya?" It was Cory. She didn't move. "What's wrong." Said Riley.
"Riley, why don't you come back in in a minute."
"I'm not leaving her."
"For a moment. Just one." Riley nodded and then stepped out of the room. He looked at the girl, laying on her bed, facing away from him.  He walked towards her and sat in the edge of her bed.
"I think I know what's going on. I need to know who this is." Maya shook her head. He moved the rim of her t-shirt just enough to reveal the mark. It was definitely a hickey.
"Maya. Don't lie to me." Riley entered and Cory nodded, putting his hand on her back as she walked over. She sat down next to her and pulled the hair out of her face.
"I'm so sorry about whatever is going on." After a while, they went back to Riley's house and Maya slept there. In the morning, they sat together in her window in silence. Maya stood up and walked to Riley's desk, grabbing the mini whiteboard and marker.she sat back down and wrote.
Talk to me
How can we talk if you don't speak. Maya erased her words.
You talk, I listen
Riley was silent for a moment so Maya wrote underneath her words.
Please
Riley spoke to her for a long time and Maya just listened. She loved having the distraction.
-------
It was Tuesday afternoon when Maya didn't meet up with Riley after school. David had noticed that she wasn't at home anymore so he had pulled her out of school because he was suspicious that she had told.
Maya sat weakly threw on her shirt and underwear on as quickly as she could, which was not too fast. Before she got anything else on, David stepped in the doorway with a gun.
"I'm leaving but I'm not letting you live happily ever after." He lifted the gun and she quickly turned over. He shot her back once, her stomach once and her right leg twice. She dropped down to the ground. He walked up to her and stepped on her phone.
"Incase you thought that you had a chance of being saved." He flew the window open and jumped out, running far away.
