Chapter 17

Spencers POV

I looked at Harry for any sign of what to do but he just shrugged. His hand was held tightly against mine, pushing the icepack into my skin. I don't know how she would respond if she found out that I knew. I guess she just wanted to tell me on her own time, when she was ready. It was obvious and clear she wasn't. She didn't take her eyes off Harry, while Harry looked everywhere but at her.

It told me that they used to be close. That they interacted a lot, but tried to forget about each other. It was almost as if they had a connection themselves. But it slipped when Jace was out the picture. But Jace and Lauren? She doesn't seem like the type to date someone like him. They were total opposites, but what harry said, she was vulnerable.

"Harry, can I talk to you, alone?" She crossed her arms loosely across her chest as she spoke. He still didn't look at her but nodded. He stood from his position and gave me an awkward smile and wave before he left, shutting the door.

I sat in the bathroom playing with my knuckles. I wonder if they were affected or something. The bruise seemed to have darken a bit. The more I looked at them, the more it had hurt. I sigh loudly not knowing what to do.

Three minutes past and Niall walked in. His hair was messy and he still looked sleepy. He smiled and I returned the smile. He looked down at my hands and seen the icepack, oblivious to what happened.

"Spencer what happened?" He came and squatted down, the same way Harry had did. His left hand was placed on my knee and his right was placed on my hand.

"It was nothing. Just one good bang on the table really," I said, reassuring him.

"We have to get you to the hospital! This isn't good for you. Did you do this?" He said, clearly concerned.

"Yes," I lied. I was hoping he didn't catch on. His eyes were burning inside mine as he waited for me to flinch first. Of course, I was the first to blink and look away.

"Who did this to you?"

"Niall, it was no one. Its totally fine!"

"No Spencer, its totally not fine, and it was someone. My brother had his knuckles like this once and he was rushed to the hospital. Now tell me who did this so I can be the living he-"

"Niall! Can you please chill for a minutes! I don't even think you know him," I said, though I didn't know him myself.

His brows furrowed together as he looked at me. He scoffed at me and looked down. He glanced at me and looked at me in the eyes. He opened his mouth to speak, but closed it. He opened it once again to speak, "It was a guy who did this to you? Who was it Spencer?" He was angry and you could tell.

Once I didn't respond he spoke again.

"Spencer, no girl should be treated this way. And no guy has the right to do this and call themselves a man."

I sighed, "Me and Harry ran into each other, we got some smoothies and a guy came in and started talking to Harry. He grabbed my hand a bit harsh, then slammed it on the table."

"What. Was. His. Name," he said through gritted teeth.

"Harry said it was Jace."

His eyes almost popped out his head. So, Niall knows him? Niall's breathing quickened and his fist balled up against my shoulder. His face was a light pink as he stared at the mirror in thought.

Something tells me they had a lot of history.

He shut his eyes taking in deep breaths. I decided to stay silent because I didn't want to see's him take his anger out if I said something I shouldn't. He took normal breaths now and stood up, running his hands through his messy hair.

It was nice he was concerned about me, but I didn't want him have any stress. I then realized that Harry and Lauren had been talking for quite a while now. It made me wonder what they were talking about.

"I'll go wake up your dad. Just, take a quick shower and hurry up so we could all go to the doctors. You have to get it checked out," he sighed and looked down at me.

"Niall, it could be nothing!"

"I wouldn't have you risk the chance and it being a broken bone. I don't want that for you."

I appreciate his help and all, but I feels as if he's just overreacting a little. Though I don't want to pick a fight, I just nod my head and agree.

I follow him out the door and head towards my room to gather my things. I look around my room and see that my bed is nicely made, thanks to Lauren. After getting my things I start with the shower.

I was suddenly exhausted and new that I would surely get a good night rest. I wouldn't be surprised if I would fall asleep any minute in the hot water. I have to make my runs at night instead because I am way too tired in the morning.

I get out and quickly dry off because I don't want to have to keep them waiting on me. I be careful on putting my clothing on, so I don't do any pressure to my knuckles. I touch them lightly and instantly flinch. That really didn't feel so good. I walk out and shut the door and go downstairs. I see everyone all ready awake and watching TV. My dad is the first to notice me and stands and comes by my side.

"Spencer, are you okay? How are your hands?" He takes my hand in his and looks at it. Niall came by his side, putting his arm around his shoulder. Niall too looked equally sad. It's a just a knuckle, why can't they see that?

"We can't just put a bandage on it and call it a good day?"

I try to lighten the mood, but my dad just frowns. Niall's shakes his head at me causing me to roll my eyes at him.

"Lets get my baby girl to the doctors."

My dad looks at my hand before looking at me once more. He gently puts my hand down and walks towards the door. Harry follows him out first and the twins follow behind Harry. Behind them is Macy and then Niall.

"I'm sorry I forgot to ask but, how are you?"

A voice surprises me as i turn and see Lauren with a concerned look. "I'm fine. But I don't see what the big deal is! It's just a knuckle Lauren, a knuckle!"

She sighs at me and shakes her head, "Oh Spencer, never liking the attention," she giggles as we walk out the door.

"How are you?"

She stops her giggling and clears her throat. A pain expression shows on her features causing me to frown. "I don't want to talk about it now. Later, yeah?"

Of course I agreed. She gave me a crooked smile as we walked inside the car. I knew exactly what she wanted to talk about, and I don't know if I was quite ready myself. Hearing my friend talk about her ex, that broke her heart, I didn't want to hear that. But if she wanted to talk, I was here for her.
