Chapter 19

Spencer's POV

"So, what is it?" I ask. I jump onto her bed and she sits in front of me. She takes an Oreo from the packet in front of us and eats it. "How has your day been?" She asked, clearly stalling.

"It's been fine. How was yours?" I laugh. "You know, the same as usual. I actually went to the gym after your dad took me home. I lost a few pounds but that's not going to stop me from eating the food I lo-"

"Lauren, just tell me already," I say, forgetting the playful way we just were.

She sighs and finishes her cookie and leans back onto her palms. "Where do I start?" She comments to herself. I shouldn't be pushing her to tell me, but that was basically the whole reason why I came here.

She shuts her eyes as a big sigh pushes past her lips. She slowly opened them and straighten herself up. She sat with her legs crossed and placed her hands on her thighs.

"It started in freshman year. At the time, I was desperate. I had left middle school not knowing a thing about high school. So I wanted the attention and everything. Then it became about two weeks and I wasn't noticed and then someone had a party and everyone was invited. My friend begged me not to, but I went anyway," she took another big sigh. I sat back and listened.

"When I got there, everyone focused on me just how I wanted. I had all the guy's attention, just how I wanted. But then there was this guy that I knew instantly. His name was Jace. We talked and danced and he gave me his number. It wasn't until the week after the party when we started dating. He said that I had to keep him one promise, to not tell anyone," she stopped once more closing her eyes.

"I told him I would do anything. Then take it a few months later, he started hitting on other girls in front of me. I confronted him after school when he took me to the park after school. He called me names that no one should ever call a girl. It wasn't until I apologized so many times, that he hit me. Smacked me right across my face. It was really hard that it blew me to the ground. He got inside his truck that he didn't have a license for. I was still on the floor helpless. And if it wasn't for Harry who noticed me a few minutes later, I probably would have stayed on the floor until night time."

I felt sorry for her. I can't believe she went through this. But I wasn't there to help her. She continued again.

"He helped me. He told me that he was a jerk, that he should never do that, and that he was sorry. I was frightened of Harry because he hung out with Jace, but he was nothing like him. To cut to the short story, me and Harry started playing pranks on Jace. He never called me even though I knew it was over. Me and Harry would leave a fish at his doorstep, egg his car, sneak inside his house and throw his things on his lawn. It was great! It was even better when he got expelled for having drugs in his locker. Harry had helped me from there and we went our separate ways from there. Now that I know that he's back, haunts me from the terrible nights."

"Was that the first time he hit you?" I felt the need to ask.

"No."

"Really?"

"He would 'accidentally' hit me and say he'd never do it again. But that might, was probably the night when it had hurt the most."

"Your parents didn't know?"

"I told them that I fell off my bed when they would see the bruises on my legs. But then they would ask about my arms, and I would tell them that I was playing football with some friends and it got out of hand and they believed me."

"And what about your face? What was your excuse then?"

"I covered it up with makeup, but when I remembered that I didn't have it on they asked what happened to my eye and my cheek. I told them that it was just an accident and I ran into someone's locker at school. I can't believe they still think that was the truth, but they did."

"Lauren, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. But, why did you continue to date him after that?"

"I was desperate. Having a boyfriend made me feel like I was beautiful and worth it."

"Lauren, you know that you're beautiful right? With or without a boyfriend," I said gently.

She took another cookie and shoved it in her mouth. When she finished she didn't say anything after. After a few minutes of silence I spoke up.

"So, what are you going to do now?"

"Revenge."

She said it with clear hatred and honesty in her voice. She could get hurt, and I'm just not up for that. I looked at her to see any signs of regret or to see if she actually meant it, but she did.

"What if you get hurt?"

"It's not like it's going to be any different from those other years. What the worst he could do?"
the fact
"Kill you! He could kill you Lauren! You know how I know that? Because he's dangerous. He gave me a broken hand for crying out loud!" I waved my hand around to prove my point. Her eyes narrowed down and she loosened a bit. I thought she was actually reconsider this, but she straightened and stiffened once again.

"Well, if that's what it's going to take to get him out of this town, then that's what's going to happen."

"Lauren, please don't do this. What if I help you?"

"When does your cast get off?"

"In three to four weeks. Why?"

"Because that's perfect timing to plan."

"Lauren, you cannot be serious!"

"Oh, but I am. I will do whatever he heck it takes to get him out of this state. Killing him or not!"

I cannot believe what she's getting herself into. I can see all the pain that he had cause her, but I think she might be taking this to far.

"If this is going to make you happy, then I'll do it."

I'm just kidding.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter. I'm not sure anymore during the week when I'll update because school has been so stressful and tiring, no joke. So much homework that gets finished at 7:00 at night.

But anyway, have a great rest of the day!
