Chapter 12 - Seth

The room lit up as I threw another iPhone at the wall.

"Oh my gosh Seth, you have got to stop throwing things!" Alex said exasperated.

"Did you hear that? It sounded like a gun shot."

"Do you see that? You started a fire!"

I looked to where she was pointing. The broken iPhone had suddenly burst into flames. Somehow it had caught the empty boxes on fire as well.

"Well don't just stand there!" Alex yelled at me.

I ran over to the boxes and tried to stomp it out. The flames were already too big. I ripped off my shirt and started to try and beat it out. Looking back, I noticed Alex hadn't moved. In fact, she was staring at me.

"Excuse me princess, I know I'm irresistible, but I need a little help here."

She snapped out of her gaze, and glared at me. I could see that her cheeks were flush, probably from blushing.

"Yeah yeah, whatever"

We tried to put the flames out, but there was nothing to do. They were getting too big and were starting to get dangerous. There was nothing we could do, we had to get out of there.

"Alex!" I had to yell above the fire. "Alex, we need to leave!"

"What?"

I never got the chance to answer. There was a scratching sound, and a metal rack collapsed and fell onto Alex. She let out a scream.

"Alex!" I screamed, out of surprise and concern.

I ran over to her side. She had nearly her whole torso underneath the shelf. Her chest and arms were the only things free. She was squirming and pushing, but I knew there was nothing she could do on her own.

"Alex, you need to calm down." I said as steadily as I could.

"Calm down? You're telling me to calm down? You're not the one stuck under a flaming shelf!" She screamed at me.

"Listen, the more you struggle, the harder it will get. You can't move this thing on your own; you're just going to wear yourself out. Take a deep breath."

"You've got to be kidding me!" She exclaimed.

I just looked at her. She rolled her eyes, but she said ok. We took 2 deep breaths and it seemed to clear her head.

"Alright, now here is what we are going to do," I started. "I am going to lie down next to you and push up on the bar. I want you to do the same. Once we get it up enough, I want you to slide your lower half out from underneath it." She looked like if she said anything she would cry. She just nodded her head.

"Alright." I slid into position next to her. Her body was shaking. If the shelf cut her somehow, she could be going into shock. I had to get this off her as soon as possible.

"We are both going to push on three. Ready?" I asked, but halfway because I needed to know if I was ready. "One, two, three"

The shelf creaked as we lifted it up. I locked my arms into position.

"Okay, now let go and slide out. I can hold it."

She didn't move.

"Alex?" There was no response.

Well great. I thought to myself. Now what am I supposed to do. She must have fallen unconscious. I couldn't hold the shelf and drag her out at the same time. If I let go of the shelf, it might crush her because she is not resisting against it.
