Chapter 17 - Alex

The safehouse was beyond what I had imagined. When Oliver and I made it past the now destroyed airlock and into the first room, which was a feat in itself, we were met with a alien sight. A massive digital monitor rose up from a slit in front of us. "Welcome." It read in a familiar voice. The monitor suddenly sprang to life, and Morgan appeared on the screen. I shrieked.

"Morgan!" I cried. He was alive. He wasn't here, but he was somewhere. He had to be.

"Alex, if you are seeing this, I'm sorry. It means I have failed you as an uncle. I have had to put you in harms way for it to get so bad for you to be at this safehouse."

Anger rushed over me. It wasn't him, it was a stupid recording. I screamed at the screen. It had gotten my hopes up for nothing.

"You are probably very angry and confused,"

Yeah, good call Morgan.

"So I'll make this quick. After I'm done speaking, a map will show up on the screen. It will show you the safehouse and of the all parts and functions to it. You don't have to do anything to keep it going, it is all automated. There are a few things you should know. If you have guests with you, you will need to register them with the houses security system. There is a clinic if you are injured. The kitchen is stocked with food but it will not last you forever. There are weapons in the armory for you to hunt with. You will be safe here. Alexandria, I love you. Stay safe."

And with that he was gone. A floor plan of the house popped up on the screen. Past this room, there was an elevator. The elevator had 5 levels. 5 was the level we were on now, 4 was labeled sleeping quarters, 3 was labeled amenities , 2 was labeled training, and 1 simply said outside. We walked over to the elevator.

On the panel next to it, there was a camera above an arrow button. I clicked the button and a noise sounded, something like a bell. The doors opened and we stepped inside.

"Welcome Alexandria, I am the houses diagnostics and security system, but you can call me Alfred." A chippy voice from inside the elevator said. "You must set up the system before we can go any further."

"Alright Alfred, but make it quick." I said, getting a strange look from Oliver.

"Splendid! First off , what shall I call you?"

"Alex would be nice."

"Who is with you, Alex?"

"This is Oliver." I nudged him.

"Uh... How do you do?"

"Pleased to make your acquaintance. Alex, I am noticing that the armored door to the entry room has been compromised."

"Yes, there was a bit of an incident. Seth decided to shoot it. He's still in the hallway. We don't need to wait for him."

"Ah, I shall be sure to harass him when he does decide to come in." So the house had a sense of humor. Morgan must have done that just for me. "Thank you Alex, you may now proceed."

The door beeped and slid shut. A panel materialized with the levels on it. If you hovered over a level, a description would pop up. I chose level 3, because it had the clinic and a kitchen. What can I say, I was hungry.

Oliver nearly fainted when he saw the clinic. It was high tech and full of medicines and instruments I could not begin to understand. He examined each piece of equipment, giddy with excitement. There was a panel that could diagnose your problem and show you the medicine you needed or the procedure. I decided to leave Oliver to his crazy excitement because it was beginning to make my head hurt.
