Chapter 5 A Song & A Phone Call

It was finally the weekend. No more school! Well, until Monday... But still, I was happy to wake up to a text from Jordan asking if I wanted to come over again. We were just going to play video games and maybe order a pizza or something. Ben was busy with family and Johnnie was on a date with Alex. So, we decided to hang out. I didn't have to be at his house until 1:30, right now it was 12:00 and I was bored to death. Time goes by way to slow when you decide to stay in your room and watch tv. But soon I was hungry, so I decided to go downstairs and make a bowl of cereal. When I got to the kitchen I noticed my mom on the phone.

Y: (Who is she talking to this early?)
I wondered.

As I got some cereal, I listened to the conversation.

Mom On Phone: I'm not busy this weekend but I have to work Monday through Friday.

...

M: Well, how about next weekend?

....

M: Alright. Maybe I can get off early on Friday. Would that work?

...

M: Great! See you then. *hangs up*

Y: Who was that? *takes a bite of cereal*

M: That was a friend of mine. We're going out to dinner on Friday.

Y: Oh.. What's their name?

M: His name is Steven.

Y: Wait, this friend of yours, is a guy?

M: Yes. Why?

Y: So you're going on a date?

M: I dont know if I'd called it a date. I'd call it a friendly get together.

Y: Seriously mom? I'm not five. If you're going out that's fine, I just didn't think you'd fine someone that fast. *continues eating cereal*

M: Oh, please. Its nothing serious. We were friends in high school and we happen to run into each other the day after we moved in here. We just thought it'd be nice to sit down and catch up with one another.

Y: I still think it's a date. *drinks milk from bowl*

M: Like the date you're going on later today?

Y: *chokes on milk and coughs* W-What?!?

M: Oh, you know, you and that boy Jordan. Which reminds me, when do I get to meet him?

Y: Mom!

M: What? I'm just asking.

Y: *sighs* Its not a date. I'm just going over so I can kick his butt at Mario Cart... again...

M: *laughs a little* I still think it's a date.

Y: Ha ha. Very funny. *puts bowl in the sink*

M: You're right. Its hilarious. *smiles* But really, I'd love to meet him. Maybe he can come over for dinner tomorrow. You know, if you'd ask him.

Y: Why do you want to meet him so badly?

M: Just to make sure he's not a trouble maker.

Y: I can already tell you he's not.

M: Mother knows best dear. And I know that if he is, you won't be able to see it. You forget I was a teenager too, and I know exactly what teenage boys are like.
