Lucy
The town was fairly small, only holding a few thousand people at most, but it looked like there were a few hundred thousand there.Okay, that was an over exaggeration, but it was still a lot more than there should be.
I slowly made my way over the town, but I was so high up that my shadow was hardly visible on the ground. The forest was much more vast than I expected, but I had a strategy.
He wouldn't go too far in as he needed food and supplies. Maybe there is a shelter that he is occupying. I'll have a look around the boarder first, then start moving inland.
After an hour of searching, it was almost sunset and I needed shelter, luckily, I had spotted a hunter's cabin not too long ago and decided to rest there. I did a sharp, 360 degrees turn and flew back towards the cabin.
It was twilight by now as the sun set earlier in the winter. I plopped down and immediately retracted my tails. The other Icarus didn't know about that yet and if they saw me now I would prefer it without my tails. I wanted to brake it to them slowly.
My wings folded with a slight ruffle of my feathers. The noise was louder than I anticipated and I realised that there was something in the cabin and they heard it too.
I froze on the spot, what if it was the hunter? I hadn't seen anyone here so I thought it was deserted.
Suddenly, two blurs rushed out and tackled me to the ground.
"My wings!" I hissed. I was on my back and whoever or what ever was on top of me was pushing my wing down at an awkward angle.
"S-sorry! I thought you were the hunter!" I finally looked up, and to my relief, I saw Tyler. His pale eyes filled with worry. But next to him was a boy with dark hair and wings.
"Your the one from my dream." I muttered, but of course, we all had super hearing here and both of them heard. Really, voice box, really? So much for breaking it to them subtly.
I let out a long sigh,"If you let me stay I will explain what I can." They both ushered me into the cabin swiftly.
The inside was just plain creepy-but of course, I didn't show this on the outside. Dead animal's heads hung from the walls and the place was dark, not just because of the lack of light. I took off the backpack and placed it on a worn down couch near the middle of the room. I heard the door shut and quickly opened the zip.
As the stack of files were half way out of the bag, Tyler suddenly said, "wow, those are awesome tattoos aren't you a little young? How old are you anyway? I-if it's okay to ask..." I resumed my process of getting out the files and replied;
"I turned fourteen yesterday and they aren't tattoos." They both gave me questioning looks, but I just ignored them and layed out the files in chronological order on the wooden floor so that they would understand everything.
"Read the sheets in order and you won't miss anything. Tyler, you start, once you've finished the first sheet, hand it to..." I trailed off, not knowing his name.
"Miguel."
"Then hand it to Miguel" Tyler sat in the floor, engrossed in the first sheet, while Miguel and I sat on the old couch.
"You look sleepy." He was very perceptive, my face must have slipped.
"I just realised how much my journey tuckered me out." I was waiting for the question.
"Where did you come from?" There is was.
"The next state that way." I pointed south east.
" What? How did you get here? Were you by yourself?" I sighed, I knew this was coming, but I was too tired to deal with it.
"I flew."
"You flew?" They both yelled. Then they cringed at there own voices because of their enhanced hearing. My body didn't even flinch, I was...used to loud noises. They then both muttered an apology but kept their questioning gazes locked on me.
"Read the sheets." I muttered. That flight really did tire me out. I felt my eyes slowly drooping shut and I leaned to the left slowly and landed in what felt like a shoulder. I was still slightly conscious. Not asleep, just resting. So I caught their conversation.
" Tyler, have you finished that sheet?" He replied with a soft yes and I assume got up and walked over to us.
"You want me to take her? I don't know if you'll be able to read in that position."
"It's fine, I'll manage." I felt myself being shifted and leaning against what felt like a chest. Did I mention that they were both shirtless? No? Ok.
Arms wrapped around the bottom of my arms and I guessed that he was holding the sheet in front of us, with me on his lap. My wings were small, so it wasn't too much trouble to fit comfortably.
"She really is something special, you know. I wonder where she got these shee-" he cut himself off. Must be up where Goldberg mentions I'm his daughter.
"Oh." Was all he said.
"She is definately something special." Miguel replied, hugging me closer to him.
" Did you see her eyes? I thought she was blind at first. It kind of scared me, thinking that she would be stuck like that so young, in such a situation." I could almost see the sad look in his beige eyes.
"I wonder how she kept a straight face, she's only fourteen." Miguel sounded worried as well. Strange, I had only met them today.
"Hey, I know this might sound weird ...but I feel a kind of... connection, I guess, towards her. Like She's supposed to be the one to help us through this, even though she's younger. Like a motherly figure.... Ok that sounded better in my head, forget I said anything."
" No, I feel it too. I thought I was just imagining it. It's like we've been best friends for life and I would do anything for her. It is a weird feeling to try and explain."
Their conversation stopped there. And with that, I drifted off into the first peaceful sleep in years. Literally.
