"Mam I need you to move away from him right now if you want us to save him" says the paramedic urgently.
"are you saying that there is a chance to save him?" I ask through the tears.
"Yes. But we need to go right now. What is your relationship with him?" he asks seriously.
"I am his girlfriend." I say as I get up.
"Okay, you can ride in the back with us to the hospital. But we need to go like right now." ha says as he is loading Chase into the back of the truck. The paramedic gives me a hand up.
The ride to the hospital consisted of the paramedic checking Chase's blood pressure. And me crying. Typical I know.
When we finally arrive at the hospital, they wheeled Chase through the door to surgery and asked if I could hang out in the waiting room and call his parents. I agreed.
I sat down in the chair in the waiting room crying my eyes out for about 10 minutes before I got the courage to call his parents. I pulled out me phone and dialed Claudia's number.
"Hello?" said Claudia
"Hey its me. I need you to come to the hospital." I said still crying
.
"Cassie, what happened?" she asked worriedly.
I told her the story and she told me that she would be there in 5 minutes tops. And that I need to call Blake.
"Hello?" says Blake.
"Hey I need you to come to the hospital." I say quietly.
"Why? Is it your shoulder?" he asks seriously.
"No, its Chase." I say quietly.
"Okay I will be there in 2 minutes and you can tell me what happened there." he said. I agreed and I hung up
.
Suddenly I saw Coach burst through the door. Engulfing me in a huge hug. "How is he doing?" he asked.
"He had a stroke when he was shot. That's why he is non-responsive. They took him back to surgery. That is all I know right now." I say sadly. I sat there crying and praying in the waiting room. I hope Chase will be okay.
After about 5 minutes, Chase's parents burst through the door. They rushed over to me and hugged me. They were demanding to know what happened. I told them what happened, and were crying along with me when a nurse came through the door.
"The family of Chase McGinnis." says the nurse. Hearing his name made my heart drop to my stomach. I got up with Coach and Chase's parents.
"He made it through the surgery just fine. He lost a lot of blood. He re-gained consciencesness, and he is asking for one person, a Cassie Miller." says the nurse motioning me to go with her.
"Claudia, Blake, are you sure I can go in first? I won't go in if you want to see him first." I said through the tears.
They looked at each other for a minute, "Go ahead Cassie. If he wants to see you first then we are not going to stand in the way of that." Claudia sais with a comforting smile. I nodded going in through the doors of the elevator.
There was an awkward silence going up the elevator to the top floor, the trauma floor. Once the doors opened, I stepped out following the nurse to his room. I looked around seeing how people were staring at me. probably because I still have my volleyball stuff still on and my eyes red and puffy from where I was crying so much. I ignored the stares and went into Chase's room.
'Nurse, is that you?" I hear a faint voice say.
I go around the corner to see a banged up Chase. I started to cry all over again. I put my hands up to my mouth and I was hysterical. Suddenly I heard Chase say something.
"Hey, please don't cry. I'm just a little banged up. I'm going to be okay." says Chase motioning me to come on the bed with him. I hesitantly sat down with him as he put his arms around my waist and started to kiss me. I pulled away. He looked at me confused.
"This is all my fault." I say quietly. I look down at me and Chase. My eyes trailed to his bandaged up stomach.
"No its not. How can you even say that? It is your dad's fault, and he is paying for it." he mumbles in my hair. Then looking at me with his beautiful green eyes.
"No, it is my fault. If I hadn't of brought you along to come to my Dads then none of this would have happened." I say sadly.
"Hey then it would have been you he shot. I much would rather me going through the pain then you." he said kissing my hair.
"But..." Chase interupted me.
"No buts. I don't regret what I did. I did it because I love you. And nothing is going to change that." he said sweetly.
"Okay then I will be right back with your parents." I say getting up.
Before I got to the door, I hear Chase, "I love you Cassie."
"I love you too Chase." I really do.
