Cody's POV:
New year, new me - is that not what they say?
Looking back at the past year makes my head spin. It was the most amazing year in my career, but probably one of the worst ones personally. Well maybe not. I did meet Ashley after all, but I also threw her away in the process.
Alli is walking around my room, trying to plan my birthday party. Seventeen! Probably one of the most uninteresting ages to turn as a teen. At sixteen you get to drive a car. At eighteen you are basically an adult. But at seventeen? absolutely nothing.
That's also partly why I let Alli - who insisted by the way - plan the party.
"Are you going to invite Ashley?" Alli asks.
"No?" I sort of ask back. Don't get me wrong I would love nothing more than for her to be there. But we haven't spoken in months, she didn't reply to my letter, and she also lives on the other side of the world.
Which she never even told me about.
The only reason I found out was because someone tagged me in a photo of her in England on twitter. At first I thought they had just gone for vacation but then Alli did some research and turns out they moved.
"Why not?" Alli retorts, bringing me back to reality.
I frown at her. "What do you mean why not? Would you invite all of your ex-boyfriends to your birthday party?" I snap.
I don't know why the topic of Ashley gets me so worked up but it does.
"I don't have any boyfriends but I guess not" she says. I'm a little surprised she ignored my bad mood.
"whatever. Can we do this later?" I sigh.
Alli just agrees and goes to plan on her own, which I am thankful for. I know that with Ashley I nearly forced her to air her feelings when she was feeling down but recently I just can't live up to that demand myself.
I lay down on my bed.
How will I get over Ashley?
Ashley's POV:
The first week of school flew by and I for once in my life can say that I enjoy it. Truthfully.
Laura met me before the first class on the first day, and we instantly became better friends. She introduced me to her friend-group and they all seem very nice too.
None at my school seem to know - or care for that matter - about my life in LA. Which is great. A fresh start is exactly what I needed.
It's Saturday, January 11th and Laura and her friends are hosting a party, that I have been invited to.
It's going to be weird, because last year I imagined the party I would be at on this date, was Cody's seventeenth.
"Are you okay?" Laura asks, sitting down beside me on the floor to get natural lighting to do her makeup.
"Yes, just got distracted" I smile, continuing my makeup.
I keep my makeup light, with just some foundation and eyeliner. I personally think I look better with less makeup than more.
"I can't wait to see Jamie, he is looking great this year" Chloe, one of the girls in Lauras friend group that I have gotten to know, squeals coming into the room. We are sat in Lauras bedroom because her parents are working late, and this way we can get out of the house without lying about the party.
