The sky was dark. It had been heavily raining for several hours. Usually the rain made me sad and gloomy but right now I couldn't help but smile. I was on my way home from a great game I just played. We had won! This was our first win. Everyone in the crowd was cheering, and everything went great. Soccer was my life. I had played it since I could walk. I was going on and on about the game to my parents and brothers until I heard a scream. I looked up and saw a flash of bright light....
"Excuse me ..... Young lady... Are you alright" I looked up to see a worried flight attendant looking down at me. "Um ya. Bad dream. How long till we land?" "About 20 minutes". She walked away as I looked out the window. It has been almost one year since that horrible night. The night that changed everything. It was that night I lost what was closest to me. Thanks to a drunk driver I lost my parents and 2 brothers. I was the only one who lived. The police arrested the driver but he is only sentenced to 5 years in jail. I have only ridden in a car about 3 times since then. Every time I do I can only think of my mothers scream and the flash of light. "Please fasten your seat belts as we are landing soon" the intercom spoke. As we prepared to land I could only think about how horrible this summer is going to be. I have to live with a new foster family with no friends, no one I know, and no family. Great. This is my third foster home by the way. None of the other homes cared enough to notice me and in some cases even feed me. That's why they are sending me to a home in a whole other country. My thoughts were broken by the rest of the passengers scrambling to grab their luggage. I was in no rush. I waited and waited until finally a nice lady let me go first and I was off the plane.
I walked past the crowd of people and to the luggage belt. I watched as family's came to gather their bags. I couldn't help but feel sad. Finally my red bag came by. I grabbed it and went towards the group of people waiting with signs in their hands. I saw several men in suites waiting for the match to their sign until I noticed a woman standing off to the side. She had brown hair, brown eyes and looked around 45. I read her sign, Maddie Smith. I took a deep breath and proceeded forward. "um hi" I said unsure of what to say. The woman looked down at her phone and up again then down. When she looked up again she smiled and hugged me. "Maddie. I am so happy to finally meet you. I am Mrs. Hall, your new foster mother. Just call me mrs. Hall for now though" she finally replied looking over joyed. "Hi. Nice to meet you" I said not even sounded close to as enthusiastic as she was. "Here let me take your bags". She led me to the exit and to a black car. "Hop in" she said. "Don't worry I have a feeling it won't take you long to find your place here"
