A month later I was outside with Lillian, Chase asked her to the prom about two weeks ago. ‘’Lillian, we need to go get a dress for prom, it’s next week.’’ ‘’Yeah, let’s go.’’ ‘’We don’t have any money, though.’’ ‘’Danielle, please, Chase gave me like two hundred dollars yesterday for us to get a dress.’’ ‘’Two hundred!’’ ‘’Yeah, let’s go.’’ We went out to the car our mom said we could have, she said that she’s sorry about how it looks, it’s the only thing she could afford, ‘’Man, if I could join the Sweethearts I would have the money to buy all of us a nice car,’’ I already asked mom if I could but she said no, of course. We went to the mall in the city, so the drive took about an hour, and believe me when you’re stuck in a car without air conditioning in the middle of May, it sucks. ‘’Wow, has the mall always been this big,’’ Lillian said. ‘’Wow, I think it grew.’’ We walked to a dress store and looked at the dresses, Lillian found hers immediately, while I was still looking. ‘’I don’t like any of these, ugh.’’ Lillian picked out several but I didn’t like any of them, it was always the same, ‘’No, definitely not, hate it, eww, terrible.’’ ‘’Dani, do you like even one.’’ ‘’No, all of them are ugly, and raggedy.’’ ‘’Ok, what kind of dress do you like?’’ ‘’I like short dresses, that are either strapless or halter, I like poofy dresses.’’ ‘’Ok, oh, what about that one?’’ She pointed to the one sitting alone, ‘’Oh my god, it’s perfect!’’ She smiled at her success, ‘’I knew it.’’ we walked to the counter there was a long line, and it made it worse when these two guys that were probably twenty walk up behind us, we could hear them whispering about us, then the taller older one said something, ‘’Hey baby girl, why don’t we ditch this dress store and head back to my place, me and my friend were just thinking about how hot y’all country gals look,’’ he had the worst country accent I ever heard. I turned around and then Lillian did, ‘’I hope you’re talkin to someone else cause I would really hate for y’all to be a chew toy for our daddy, and by the way you’ve got something on your face and it’s making you look like a fool, oh wait, never mind that’s your nose.’’ Me and Lillian turned back around, ‘’Wow,’’ she whispered. After we checked out and went to the car we started laughing hysterically, ‘’That was funny, he was like what.’’ ‘’I know right!’’ We drove home and sat in out room and talked about what the prom would be like, and what the guys will think of our dresses.
