song of the chapter: i wont say im in love from the 'hercules' soundtrack (lmao)

"Oh fuck!" I shouted as we finally arrived back to our starting point after a four mile run. "Fuck you, Hale. Fuck you so much right now. I never want to even look at your face again after that torture you just put my ass through!"

"Hey, I asked you after the first two miles if you wanted to stop." He chuckled, not even bothered by the fact that we had just run four miles around Beacon Hills.

"I only said that because I was not going to lose to you." I panted.

"Who said this was a race?"

"Oh, it isn't a race. It was a battle to see who was the weaker. Our feud may be over, Hale, but remember this: I will never lose to you in a battle to see who is the alpha."

His eyes widened a bit before going back to their normal size, flashing with the same thing Scott's and Stiles' did when I mentioned werewolves. I mean, I get there are a lot of animal attacks in this place, but they need to get real. There is no such thing as werewolves.

"Well if this were a test of strength, I would be the winner either way." He said, snapping us both out of it.

"Well this isn't a fucking test of strength, is it, Hale?!" I groaned, leaning on my knees (which felt like they were going to fall off of my legs at any moment.) "This is a battle between who can run the whole four miles. It's a test of whether you can do it or not. And I don't give a fuck if you can do all of that without even breaking a sweat, I still did it. And that is all that matters."

Hale laughed at me, handing me his water bottle, which I took happily. Where was mine, you may ask? Well, I think it's in a trashcan just somewhere passed mile one.

"Come on, Elizabeth," He smiled, patting my back. "Let it all out now. I don't want to hear it all tomorrow when you're sore."

"You know, when a guy usually tells me that I am going to be sore tomorrow, it isn't because we are going to go on a four mile run."

Hale's eyes widen at my statement, but I can only focus on downing the rest of his half-consumed water. This man was half machine, I swear.

"And for the record?" I pant, looking up into his green eyes. "I much prefer the first cause."

He coughed uncomfortably and shifted from foot to foot, obviously stunned at my boldness.

"Oh, come on, Hale," I chuckled, managing to finally stand up. "Lighten up. I was only kidding... Sort of."

"You have not changed at all, have you?"

"Why do people keep asking me that? Obviously I haven't - I'm still as amazing as I ever was."

"You and I remember high school you very differently, then."

"You had your head too far up your own ass to see how I was so cool I was."

"You're still not cool, Elizabeth, nor will you ever be."

"I am cooler than a cucumber's butt, Hale, and you know it!"

He rolled his eyes but cracked a small grin, letting me know that I won. Again.

"Alright, He-Man," I said, standing up straight. "I believed I promised nourishment for the both of us at the beginning of this whole ordeal, and I am a woman of my word."

"Elizabeth, you don't have to-"

"Hale, let me do one nice thing for you you ungrateful git," I groaned, taking one his monstrous hands with both of my own. "I get lonely and Jordan is at work because he is lame. And I have my mom's famous cookies. Also two showers. Along with extra clothes of my dad's if you need them. Did I mention Netflix? Or-"

"Elizabeth, it's fine." Hale chuckled, stopping, and somehow preventing me from dragging him any further. "You don't need to."

"Hale, please." I sighed, looking at him, suddenly feeling the emotions that I've been trying to avoid since the night at the club. "Look. I don't want to sound like a little pissbaby, but ever since... you know... I haven't exactly been too keen on being all alone. I'll even admit that I'm a little afraid. Just... don't be a dick and come to my house and eat some fucking cookies with me. As an ex-arch nemesis."

"...Your mom's famous recipe you say?"

"Complete with the secret ingredient and everything."

"I'm in."

I smiled up at him and stared into his green eyes for a while, allowing myself to get lost in them for a minute.

"Thank you." I said sincerely, no sarcastic undertones or anything.

"Anything for an ex-arch nemesis." He replied with my same smile. "Now, come on. We've got another long walk ahead of us."

"Seriously though fuck you for this whole thing - I hate you."

"Hate you too, Elizabeth."
