"Am I spelling this right?"

"I think there's supposed to be a I at the end and only one A."

"How do you even pronounce it? Poppa-lawsky? Pop-lay-whiskey? Poplaw-skeye?" she pronounces the name funnier each time she says it and we both laugh.

"Well I can't find anything about Mr. Whatever anywhere in the textbook. How did we end up with this guy anyways?"

"I have no idea" I say leaning back in my chair.

If I'm being honest it was my fault we got stuck with Pop because I was the one who drew his name out of the hat Mr. Grayson had passed around the class earlier. We were partnered up and assigned to do a presentation on a famous inventor in history and with my luck I picked the guy with a fake sounding name that no had ever heard of before.

It wasn't a totally bad situation though, the girl I was paired with was really nice and had a cool sense of humor. She sighs and continues to look through the old textbook in front of her while I volunteer to use my phone to see if I could find anything out about our inventor by googling him.

At least that's what I told her I was doing, I had my text messages pulled up instead. This morning I had woken up with another text from an unknown number.

"Aren't you a little to old for sleepovers?" the text read.

Included was a picture of me standing in front of Lucas's bedroom window the night I slept at his house. It wasn't a big mystery who had sent the text which is probably why I wasn't that worried. There's only one person who could of sent it and the next time I saw him I was going to give him a piece of my mind.

"Alright everyone remember: I'm only giving you two weeks to research your inventors and create a presentation for the class so please do not wait until the last minute." Mr. Grayson said as the bell rang. I shoved my phone into my pocket and started walking out of the classroom.

I felt bad that I had spent most of my time thinking about that text and not really helping my partner with the assignment in class so I wanted to make it up to her.

"Hey because I picked the worst name possible, I'll do some research tonight, start writing flash cards for the presentation and whatever else, cool?"

"You're a life saver." she says giving me a quick hug. "I've got a date tonight that I really don't want to miss."

"It's no problem, really." I shrug it off, glad that I haven't upset the only other friend I'd made here. Well right now we were just project partners but I could see us becoming actual friends, she had a different kind of personality that I liked. She just seemed so genuine.

"Hey Han." a girl with long brown hair who was dressed like a politician calls out. With her grey blazer and nicely pressed black slacks she looked like she belonged working at my parents law firm not walking through the halls of a high school, right towards me and Hanna.

"Hey Spencer." I recognized her face but I couldn't think of where I'd seen her before.

"Spencer this is Melanie. Melanie, Spencer. She just moved to Rosewood a few weeks ago. We're doing a history project together on some imaginary inventor named Popla-"

"Stephen Poplawski? Born August 14th 1885 he had several patents through out his life but his most famous one before he died in 1956 was his creation of the blender." She recites without breaking a sweat. "What?" she asks as we both stare at her in awe.

"The blender? Mr. Grayson thinks learning about this will help my future how?" Hanna asks.

"Wow" I say impressed. "We spent a hour looking up things about him and we couldn't find anything, not even his birthday."

"Yeah well that's Spencer. Top of our class and soon to be debate club president." Hanna says nudging Spencer's arm with her elbow.

"That's right!" I say at my sudden realization. "I recognize you from those yellow flyers someone was passing out a while ago."

"Yeah we printed a lot of those. It cost like $600 dollars to print so many but it must be working if you've heard of us." She smiles "So where did you move from?" She asks but I'm to distracted. I spot Noel at his locker down the hall and need to make it over there before he walks away.

"I uhh....I've gotta go but it was nice meeting you, good luck with your campaign." I say and begin to walk away. "See you later Hanna."

Hanna's Pov

"Is she talking to Noel?" Spencer asks in a disapproving tone.

"I guess so." I reply surprised.

"She's only been here for how long and she already knows Noel Kahn?" she asks watching him move towards Melanie, the two were speaking very close to one another. I couldn't see what she was saying but I could see Noel smiling that falsely charming smile of his. "Do you think they're dating?" Spencer asks. "The girl sure knows how to pick em." She says suspicious.

"I mean I've only known her for a day but she's been cool so far. Plus he doesn't seem like her type anyway." I say defending her.

"Unfortunately with that kind of face and body he seems to be everyone's type." she says giving one last glance at Noel and Melanie before walking with me to our math class. "Anyways, are coming over tonight?"

"I can't, remember? I've got that date with Caleb...."

Melanie's Pov

"New girl!" He says acting surprised "What do I owe the pleasure?"

"Do you think you're funny?" I ask as he closes his locker.

"I think I'm hilarious." He says with a big cheesy grin. He takes a few steps towards me and it makes me uncomfortable how close he is to me. However, I don't want anyone to hear what were talking about so I don't move away from him.

"Why were you even there that night Noel? It's creepy as hell that you followed me."

"I have no idea what you're talking about." He says coolly and it ticks me off even more.

"Just because I embarrassed you at your party doesn't give you the right to shove your stupid face into my business." I say trying not to raise my voice, not wanting to make a scene.

"I don't remember you minding my stupid face on Saturday night." He's says without skipping a beat.

"That was a one time thing and it will never," I say pronouncing never heavily. "happen again. Trust me. You need to lose my number alright?"

"What if I don't want too? You're just so fun to talk too." He says causing me to roll my eyes.

"Whatever, this is pointless." I say throwing my hands up in defeat and walk away.

I don't know why I thought he'd admit to sending that text but at least I tried to get some sort of answer. It was almost believable when he told me he didn't know what I was talking about, so that made me wonder. If Noel didn't send me that message then who did?
