"Has anyone called you back about a job?" my grandfather asked as he made a large pitcher of tea before work. He drank so much tea it was hard to believe we were related, I hated the stuff.
"No, I haven't heard anything yet." It had only been about a week since I turned in my applications but with each day that came and passed without a phone call I second guessed my answers more and more.
"Where did you apply to again?" he asks
"The Rosewood Movie Theater, Coffea Espresso Shop, Diva Dish, The Brew...." The list went on.
He could tell I losing hope so he said kindly "Don't worry, I'm sure someone will call soon."
"So, How are you spending your Saturday?" He asked pouring a generous amount of tea into a mug and shoving the rest into the fridge.
"I'm not sure." I say honestly
"With it being such a lovely day out, it would be a shame for you to be stuck inside. Why don't you take a bike ride around town. Get to know Rosewood better and enjoy some sun, huh?" He suggests
"Yeah that actually doesn't sound like a bad idea. Do you have a bike I could use?" I ask him
"Of course. You'll have to dig around in the garage to find it but I know ones in there somewhere. Have fun sweetie." He says giving me a quick hug goodbye before leaving.
It didn't take long to find my grandfathers bicycle. Leaning up against the back wall of the garage, the black and white bike looked almost brand new. I'm not sure why he even bought the thing seeing that he spent most of his time working.
Pulling out my phone, I look to see if there are any parks nearby and find that there's one not to far away from my house. I take a second to memorize the directions and then exit out of google. Before putting my phone away I decide to text Lucas. I had passed him by a few times in the hallways at school this week since seeing him at The Grille, exchanging some quick "Hey, How are yous'". Since we hadn't really gotten to talk to each other I thought it'd be nice to hang out with him today.
Hey, If you're not doing anything do you want to go on a bike ride with me today?
I pull my hair back into a tight ponytail and get onto my grandfathers bike. Within 30 seconds my phones buzzes with a text from Lucas.
I'm not doing anything, where should we meet?
Rosewood Park in like 15 minutes? I reply.
Cool, See you soon.

"So tell me what you like about Rosewood."
We'd been riding around for a few hours, Lucas acting as a kind of tour guide, pointing out popular places around town and telling me all about them. Right now we were cruising down a trail in the middle of the woods and Lucas had just told me about a popular hot spot apparently tucked away deep in the woods, a place called "The Kissing Rock." I had laughed when he explained it to me but stopped when he told me he had never been.
"What I like?"
"Yeah like what's your favorite part of living here?" I ask
"Favorite part?" he says repeating the question "Hmm...it's definitely a tie between the jocks who bully me just because they can or the mysterious pile of crap they like to call a school lunch." He says with a straight face.
"Lucas!" I say trying not to laugh.
"What?" he laughs along with me. "Okay, if I had to pick one thing..." he says looking me in the eyes. "It would have to be the people. Not the jocks or the shady mean girls but people like you." I blush at his compliment.
