The day went by slowly. My teachers seem nice and I think my english class is my favorite. My teacher is Mr....Fitz i think? He seems nice. During passing periods I swear almost everyone is giving me the "new girl" stare which is a little uncomfortable but I try to ignore it. Before my math class I saw a sign for a yearbook club that meets today. I know I should try to stay under the radar but I need something to keep my mind off of things. The bell rings and I exit math which is my last class of the day and begin to look for the clubs meeting spot.

I searched the halls looking for room 41 and after a few minutes I finally think found it. I take a deep breath and open the door. To my surprise the class room is empty except for a tall boy in the corner of the room studying a picture. He's wearing a green jacket with dark skinny jeans and white sneakers. I take a step inside. He looks up and our eyes meet.

"Hi, I was looking for yearbook club. It's my first day and I have no clue where I'm going......I uh..." I pause and look across the vacant room. "I thought I saw a sign that said there was a meeting today? Am I in the right place?" I ask, hoping I've found the right room.

"Umm yeah this is it. Everyone's out shooting right now, we've got a big deadline coming up. I'm Lucas." He says and reaches his hand out.

"Melanie." I say, smiling and shake his hand.

"So have you taken photos before?" he asks as I take a seat in one of the desks.

"Yeah at my old school I helped with the yearbook sometimes. I really liked it and wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help." I say will taking in the rooms bright colors and what seems like and endless sea of pictures spread all over the room.

"Yeah we're always looking for any help we can get. What kind of camera did you use?" He asks as he places the picture he's holding on a table filled with more photos.

"Nikons" I answer.

"Oh we use cannons here. I can go over the basics." He says and picks up a camera. He walks over and takes a seat next to me. He holds the camera up and points to different buttons describing what each one does. It's pretty easy to understand. He hands me the camera and I fiddle with the buttons, trying to get used to it. After a few minutes I realize Lucas is staring at me. When I look towards him he quickly looks away.

"I'm shooting the football game tomorrow, you can come with me if you want" he offers and looks nervous to what I might say.

"Sounds fun! What time?" I ask.

"I'll be there at 6." he says with a smile.

"Cool. I'll meet you then!" I say and hand the camera back to him. Our hands touch as he takes it and I swear I see him blush.

I stand up and walk to the door.

"Thanks for your help Lucas!" I say as I'm about to open the door.

"No problem!" He says with another smile.

I leave the room and walk around for a few minutes before finally finding the doors that lead to the parking lot. It has been a long day and I can't wait to get home.

......

I arrive home, well, my grandfathers home and am relieved to see his car isn't in the drive way. I unlock the front door and go inside. I enter the kitchen to see if theres anything good to eat and notice a note taped to the refrigerator door. "Running some errands. I'll be back late. Don't get your self into trouble. Love, Grandpa". Even though the last part of the note was supposed to be a joke, I half believe he meant it. I've told him over and over again that things that happened last year would never happen again but he won't drop it. I grab a soda and head up stairs. I try to get my mind off of things by watching some youtube videos and then I attempt doing some homework. 'Who gives homework on the first day?' I was assigned to read 50 pages of a book for english and I doze off while reading it. My dreams for once are peaceful.
