Walking home from the office, I felt like someone was following me. I sped up my pace a little bit, but there's only a certain speed you can go in heels. I finally stopped and turned to see that it was Cameron, Carter's brother following me.

"Why are you following me?" I asked.

"Making sure you get home safely. Shouldn't be walking home in the dark by yourself like this. My car is back there if you want a ride." Cameron gestured.

"You don't mind?" I questioned.

"Not at all." He smiled and we started walking to his car.

"So what's it like? Being a lawyer and everything?" Cameron asked me.

"I love being a lawyer. It's fun. You always have to prove you're right. And a woman, that's what I do anyway. I don't have any kids or a husband which won't make my life hard. So yeah...being a lawyer is great." I smiled and he nodded.

"That's dope. So glad you're following your dreams." He stated.

"And you're not?" I questioned him.

"I'm not a music producer. It's cool though. Some things aren't meant to happen." He shrugged.

"It's never to late to work on your dream." I stated and he nodded.

I just wish Carter could see that as well.

Carter

"Hello?" I answered the phone.

"Hey Cata."  August spoke through the phone.

"Whassup? You on ya way?" I asked.

"Yeah. I did it. And if you get bashed, I'm cussing people out. I don't care. I love you. I love my kids. I want them in my life. This is what I want. A family."

It relieved me so much to hear August say that. It was like he was changing for the better. I knew that he could step up to the plate, I just never knew when.

"I got a surprise when I come too. I hope you like it." August stated.

"Ok." I smiled.

"I should be there in about 2hours or so."

"I'll be up." I said, still smiling and hung up.

I really want to rekindle my relationship with August, but I don't think I want to move back down south yet. My family and friends are here and I just don't want to start over.

NEW TEXT MESSAGE

Devon: I'm sorry how things went between us. Can we talk?

Me: I'm sorry too, but I'm moving on.

Devon: Please, give me one more chance.

Me: I need some me time. So maybe. I'll think about it.

I stopped texting Devon and rolled my eyes. I can't win for losing.
