A year and a half later

Carter

"Roland get me your sister's diaper bag so I can get ready to take y'all to ya grandmother's." I said getting Queen's hair together.

I was grateful to have a daughter that didn't cry when I did her hair. Only being one, she acts as if she's 21. But she can barely walk.

"I got the bag mommy!" Roland said, struggling to keep it on his shoulder.

"Alright baby, I'm coming. Thank you." I said kissing his forehead.

Getting ready to head out the door, the my phone started to ring.

"Roland go ahead and go outside, I'm coming." I grabbed my phone and answered it without looking at the name.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Carter are you on your way?" My mother questioned me.

"Yes ma'am, is there something you need?" I asked walking out the house carrying Queen on my hip.

"Stop by the store and bring me some paprika."

"Okay, well I'm gonna drop the kids off, then go get the paprika." I stated as I locked Queen securely in her seat.

"Alright. See you in a few." She quickly hung up the phone.

"Okay....Mama don't normally cook with paprika." I said to myself.

I made sure Roland was situated, then got behind the driver's wheel. Getting to my mother's house with a little time left before I had to get to work, I noticed an unfamiliar car in the yard. I grabbed the kids, what they needed for the day, and walked in the house.

"Ma, whose car is that?" I questioned.

"Hey babies. Get comfortable. Carter walk with me to the kitchen." Mama said as she dragged me into the kitchen.

Walking in the kitchen, I noticed a darkskin brotha, with a close cut and a small beard sitting at the table, playing with his fingers.

"Uh ma, who is that?" I whispered to her.

"Carter, meet Cameron. Your brother." She stated.

He looked up at us, and boy did he have quite a few tattoos.

"I'm your brother from our dad." He spoke, I guess he saw the confusion on my face.

"Nice to meet you Cameron." I smiled.

I've always wanted a sibling, and now I have one.

"You too."

"Will you be here later? I have to go to work." I questioned.

"Yeah." He stated.

"Ok, cool. Okay, I'm off to work. Bye Mama love you. Let me sneak out so Queen won't notice me. Kiss Ro for me. Nice meeting you Cam." I walked out the house and proceeded to go to work.

I checked in my job and started doing some paperwork.

"Good morning Nurse Townsend." Dr. Kelly had greeted.

"Morning." I stated, while never looking up from my work.

"Working hard?" He questioned.

"Yuhp." I always kept it short with Dr. Kelly. We never had a reason to converse.
