The Morning

Ginger woke up to her parent's smiling faces.  It was school day!  The day she had been waiting for forever!  She sprang out of bed and beamed up at her parents.  "I'm ready!"

"I'm certain you are, my brave and clever girl."  Ginny gushed.

Draco put a hand on her shoulder and said, "You will be amazing in everything you do.  And you'll have lots of friends who like you for you.  Not like Daddy's friends back in school."

Ginny nodded in agreement and pulled Draco out of the room by his Slytherin-green shirt sleeve so Ginger could get dressed.

She pushed him up against the wall outside Ginger's room and whispered excitedly, "The day's here, Drake.  Our little baby is going to Hogwarts."

Draco nodded and laughed.  "I feel really old right now, Gin.  Eleven years just ran away from me."

Ginny clicked her tongue and shook her head.  "You're young in here," she pointed to his heart.  "That's what matters.  And you're physically not bad either."  Ginny smiled, squeezing his Quidditch-toned arm muscles.  Draco winked and walked down the stairs to get his coat and shoes.

Ginger made triple-sure that she had everything packed and in order, but she knew she did.  She had been packed since Christmas.  She had even packed the gaudy "G" sweater that Grandma Molly had made her.  Grandpa Arthur said it was a Weasley tradition.

Although Ginger was perfectly happy to be a Malfoy, she felt a strong sense of belonging when she was with her mom's family.  It was probably because she didn't know her father's parents.  With the way her parents talked about them, she was sure she didn't want to know them.  She was satisfied with all her uncles and her grandparents.  Her mom had had a lot of brothers, hadn't she?  And her dad hadn't had any.  How lonely.  She wanted a brother or sister someday.  She should tell her mom that sometime.  Maybe she'd mention it in her Christmas letter.

As she pulled on her jeans and silver tank top, she thought of Albus.  Her only real friend so far.  His father was the famous Harry Potter, best friend of her Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione.  His mother was Luna Lovegood Potter, the most interesting woman Ginger had ever met.  Ginger absolutely adored Luna.  She was a little loopy at times, but she was truly wise.  A true Ravenclaw.

Ginger adored Albus even more.  He had the same eyes as his father and his late grandmother Lily.  He had shaggy jet-black hair and pale skin.  He'd look a lot more like his father, but he didn't have glasses or the signature scar.  He was great to talk to and very insightful just like his mother.  He and Ginger had been friends since they were babies.  Ginger trusted him with anything and everything.

Ginger had been brushing her hair as she thought and she looked in her mirror one more time before she turned out her door.  Her white and black spotted owl Cissa hooted as if saying goodbye to her bedroom.  Ginger silently whispered goodbye as well.  She wouldn't be seeing it again for a few months.

Ginger got her shoes on and stepped into her father's silver sportscar.  He had grown a love for cars recently, which was surprising, as they are a Muggle contraption, and even Ginger knew that her father used to be very prejudiced against Muggles and Muggle-borns.

Ginger's parents were already inside the car and they let out an audible sigh of relief when Ginger sat down.  They had feared she would be late and they didn't want to repeat Harry and Ron's episode from their second year.

Draco got out and helped Ginger shove her bags into the back.  He then quickly stepped back into the driver's seat and put on the gas.  He wanted to make it to the train station quickly.  His daughter wasn't going to be the last one on the train.

A little while later the car pulled up at the station and everyone exited the car.  Draco began to grab Ginger's things and put them on a trolley so she could make it onto Platform 9 3/4.  Ginny watched her husband and daughter from the sidelines approvingly.

Ginger could do nothing but stand there and grin like an idiot, leaving her dad with most of the work.  He instructed her how to get through the wall to Platform 9 3/4, then kissed her cheek goodbye.  Ginny ran up and did the same.

Ginger's parents waved her off and began to walk back to the car, but Ginger hardly noticed.  She was in another world at the moment.  Her new life was about to begin.  And she couldn't be happier about it.
