Chapter Eleven

First kisses are supposed to make you feel like flying. They’re supposed to make your heart race, your head spin, and your stomach do flips.

But I didn’t feel anything.

Quite frankly, kissing Trevor was just about as exciting as kissing the back of your hand.

It’s not that he was a bad kisser.

It was just … the kiss was meaningless.

A kiss should be a way for two people to show their love for one another. I knew Trevor didn’t love me, and I certainly didn’t love him.

I should’ve pulled away. And I should’ve told him, once and for all, that I just didn’t feel the same way he did. But for some reason, I couldn’t move an inch.

To my discomfort, he began to deepen the kiss and I realized that I had to speak up. I had to do something before he got the wrong idea about me, if he hadn’t already.

I was this close to stopping him when suddenly, I didn’t have to.

Someone was pulling him off me.

“What the hell?!” Trevor yelled angrily at whoever was holding him by the collar.

“She’s drunk, smartass! I can’t believe you’d take advantage of her like that!” The second person yelled back.

It took me a moment to recognize whose voice it was. Gabriel’s.

“Fuck off, Lorrison. It’s none of your business!”

“She’s my best friend; it’s entirely my business!”

“Look, asshole, we both know you’re just jealous ‘cause I’ll get in her pants before you ever do,” Trevor spat.

My eyes widened in disgust at his comment. Was that really all I was good for? Was he really just using me, all this time?

Gabriel glared at Trevor for a split second, before he threw the first punch. “Douchebag.”

Trevor stumbled backwards from the impact but he didn’t hesitate to fight back.

In seconds, the two of them were on the ground, and trying to strangle each other, and shouting cuss words like there was no tomorrow.

I was both too shocked and too scared to do anything but sit there and watch.

At first, Trevor was on top, but Gabriel somehow managed to throw him off and fling him against the stairs. Taking a fistful of Trevor’s shirt in his hands, Gabriel slammed Trevor’s head against the hard marble step.

Once. Twice. Three times.

I began to panic when I noticed the blood stain growing larger and larger with each blow.

“Gabriel, STOP!”

He didn't listen.

“You’ll kill him!” I screamed, trying to pull him off of Trevor’s battered body.

When I was finally able to make him let go, Gabriel was breathing heavily.

“Serves his ass damn right,” He mumbled, under his breath.

Shut up!” I screamed. Gabriel didn’t know when to stop.

“Trevor?! Trevor can you hear me?!” I asked frantically, while shaking his body.

“Trevor?!”

There was no response.

“Please, answer me!”
