Chapter Ten
“Oh my God, Aria! You look amazing!” Annabelle shrieked when I finally emerged from the bathroom. Amazing? Far from it, I thought to myself, as I looked at my reflection in the full body mirror that was leaned against the wall.
My brown hair was in a half up-half down style, secured by a shiny black clip. The bottom layer fell around my shoulders in loose waves. I put some black eyeliner on my lash line and waterline (it took me a couple of attempts to get that right), and toped it off with mascara. I don’t really get the point of putting black gunk on your eyes, but Annabelle said something about it making your eyes “look bigger.”
She also convinced me to let her do a purple “smoky eye”, saying that it would look great with my brown eyes.
All I knew is it made me look nothing like myself.
“You forgot lip gloss!” Annabelle said, waving a pink tube labeled “Sephora” in my face.
“Do I have to?” I whined. Did I really need more gunk on my face?
“Yes,” she insisted. “Lip gloss is a must.”
I sighed, but took the tube from her and put some on anyway.
Annabelle smiled. “You really do look good though,” she said, admiring the work she did on my face and hair.
“Not half as good as you!” I replied, truthfully.
She was wearing a strapless pink dress that was tight fitting at the top, but flared out at the bottom. Her hair was pin straight, except for the part done up in a waterfall braid at the side. She had silver eye shadow which looked great with her bright blue eyes.
In contrast to hers, my dress was black. It was too short for my liking, and a little low cut, but it hugged my figure nicely. It was strapless, and like Annabelle’s it flared out at the bottom.
I probably sound like such a girl right now, taking about dresses and all. Ugh.
Annabelle did a little spin in the mirror, distracting me from my thoughts.
“Do you think Gabriel will like it?” She giggled.
“Of course! I’m sure he’ll think you’re gorgeous.”
“Aw thanks,” She said, as if she didn’t realize how pretty she actually was. “I’m sure Trevor will think you’re gorgeous too.”
Not that I really care, I thought to myself.
I did wonder what Gabriel would think of my dress though. He had never seen me in something so fancy.
I was about to slip on my black converse when Annabelle stopped me.
“No, no, no, no, no. You are not wearing those.”
“These are the only shoes I brought!” Since I was at her house, it's not like I would have my whole shoe collection with me. (Even though my “shoe collection” technically would’ve been all converse anyway.)
“Well you’re just gonna have to borrow mine,” She said, taking a grey box out of the closet. “You’re a seven and a half, right?”
My eyes widened when she opened the box. They were black heels that looked about 4 inches, not including the platforms in the front. “I can’t wear those,” I said, thinking how much they must’ve cost.
“You can and you will.”

We arrived at the dance at about nine o’clock. At Greenwood, there were two separate dances: the freshman-sophomore dance and the junior-senior dance.
