Chapter 23-Meeting a stranger

I walk through the street stalking my prey. I see him looking around nerveously before lighting up his ciggy. i walk slowly so he doesn't hear me. I'm right behind him and i can smell what kind of cigarette it is. yuck. i lightly tapp his shoulder and he jumps a foot in the air, stumbling back and gasping.

"What the hell man, what do you want?" he says his voice shaky and gruff. i look up through my hood at the man. He is not a man, but a gangly teen who is a failure at life. I sigh and wrap my hand around his neck. All his fear fall out like the pathetic weak mundane he is. His biggest fear is.....his mother. Pathetic. i drain his fear and drop him on the gravel and walk away. being a shadow walker, i ate fear, i was made up of fear, i was.....i am fear. i am the only one of my kind, and i have never found another shadow walker. i let out a long deep whistle and around the corner come my wolf Severus. He too was a shadow.

Did you get anything good? he says in my head. i shake it knowing he hates the easy targets.

"As feeble as the rest of them." i say, my breath showing in the cold winter air.

I should explain, shouldn't i? well, when i was little i remember being carted around by a man who i think is my father....I'm not sure. i have been alive for 50 years, and i havn't aged a day beyond 17. One part i can clearly recall is being settled down in something soft, and seeing this mans face looking at me tenderly. My eyes start to droop and when i open them, i am in an alley full of rubbish bags. Yes an alley, where druggies and thugs hang out, but i wasn't alone. half on my lap and half not, was this beautiful dog with a coat of jet black fur...almost like the shadows. He swings his lazy head to look at me, and does a double take when he sees my eyes open.

Little one! i hear a voice say in my head. i frown and look around, and the dog lets out a huff....that almost sounded like a chuckle.

Little one, that was me. My name is Severus. i am yours.

I smile, loving him instantly.

i look down at Severus and he shakes his head watching my flash back play over in my head. i roll my eyes. I had tried to question Severus about my past, but he would shut down and say nothing.

I.....well i call it vanishing like a magic trick. i turn from a solid to a gas, and yes...there is a special word for it, but just think, if i ever meet someone like me, I'm not going to go 'Come and sublime with me!'

yuck! it sounds like slime. So yes, i vanish. Every part of my body turns into a black mist, that basically allows me to get anywhere. i can only stay in shadow form when I'm in shadow. i could do a whole bunch of stuff, but lets save that for later.

I take my self over the roof tops, and i hear Severus behind me, (in shadow form as well). i land in the alley next to my apartment. i walk around the corner and bump into a big burly man with tattoos all up his arms. He smelt of vodka and he had a handle bar mustache. He grips my arm and smiles down at me. i dont panic, because this has happened to many times for me to count, and each and everyone of them has not lived the next day.

His teeth are yellow and stained. I can also see a bit of food stuck in his teeth....mmm.

"Hewo fhere cup'ake, whatare ou doin ut hea at vis tme of nite?" i almost laughed because this man was off his face!! I say nothing as i try to conceal my laughter. He pulls me back into the alley and pushes me up against the wall. I wanted to make sure he thought i was all his until grabbing him.

He looks me up and down.

He starts walking forward.

He grabs my wrist

Thr-

Something goes flying through the air and crashes into the man, making him fall on his butt. I don't see this thing, but i know that it is pissing me off. The thing grabs the man by the neck, and it is standing still. I run at it and sweep its legs out from underneath it. I hear a yelp and before it can register what is happening, i have my dagger at its throat and my hair is hanging down over us. I cock my head to the side and see it is a person. Not just a person, but a teen of about 19. He is breathing hard, and i feel his heart beat underneath my hand that is on his chest. I cant see him properly, but just enough to see that he is quite attractive. I don't care, he is a mortal and he disturbed my dinner. I sneer at him.

"You mortals think your hero's when you could be snapped in half like a twig. Don't you ever, interrupt my meal, understand?" the mortal does nothing so i stand and see the big burly man cowering in the corner. i walk over to him and pick him up by the neck. i feel his fears struggle and i smile. i tug at them harder and one by one, they come tumbling out. I whistle for Severus and give home the rest. I turn around and see the dude just standing there.

"I really don't want to kill you, so leave." I say quietly. He pulls his hood up, and spreads his leg. I narrow my eyes. He was in a fighting position and he was asking for it. i put my hood up of my black coat and smile to myself. i hear him run at me and when he reaches me, i sidestep. He spins fast and takes a swing. i duck (Quack!) and I'm facing his back. i sweep his legs out from underneath him. He falls but does a backward roll and ends up standing. This dude knows some moves. i take it up a notch. He runs at me and i run at him. i slide between his legs and i grab his ankles making him fall face first into the concrete. i get up and watch as he doesn't get up. i know not to judge by what they do, so i whistle. Severus bounds up to the stranger and growls at him. The stranger lifts his head up and looks at Severus's teeth. The stranger gives a low whistle and another dog comes running around the corner, and stops when she, i think, sees Severus. Severus sniffs and turns around, and he barks. The stranger gets up and turns around. He steps under the lamppost into the light and takes off his hood. i hold in my gasp as i see he is exactly like me. he has Black hair that is cropped just by his jaw line, and he has skin so pale it looks blue in the moonlight. his eyes, his eyes are what stop me. they are pure black. he has no pupil, no colours. he whistles and his dog trotts over to him. Severus trots over to me, his tail wagging. The stranger looks like a god to me, he has broad shoulders and muscles that just peek out from his coat. His eyes stare into my soul and i feel like melting.

"you're-" he nods knowing what I'm about to say. i stumble back and feel my insides tumbling around in my stomach.

"But i thought..."

"I know." he says and that's all it takes. His voice is like silk to my ears. its dark and gruff. i shake my head and vanish, taking myself somewhere other than with the stranger that was doing strange things to me.

Strangers P.O.V

Her expression makes my heart sink as i see she is scared and that she has found me. i know what she is going to do, and i know that if i follow her, she would hate me for doing so....and i couldn't do that. i had never felt like this for anyone, and yet here i am, feeling as if my heart is about to explode with pure happiness. She vanishes and i growl at my self for feeling this way. i had only just met her, and if she disappeared then she obviously didn't like me.

How wrong you are Kaelib. Her shadow, Severus....wow

Is all she says, and i chuckle at her words. My shadow, Kaerin, has always been a formal Shadow and has never liked the slang of the modern.

"i don't get it though.i have been around for 50 thousand years, and i have never seen her in my whole entire life. Where has she been?" i say to Kaerin. she huffs and trots over to the big burly man who is passed out.

He's not passed out, he's dead.

Kaerin says and i frown. she must have drained him pretty bad, but you cant kill someone by taking their fears. This girl was.......amazing. What?! i don't even know her! I sigh and run my hand through my hair, suddenly feeling tired.

"Lets go home Kae, we'll find them in the morning." she nods and vanishes. i take one last look at the alley and the man before following Kaerin.
