Chapter Nineteen

"She doesn't have a mom?" Liam whispers as we get into his car.
"No, but we can't leave her in the dirt like that... It's inhuman." I whisper back as Lacey puts her seatbelt on.
Lacey was very excited to see Liam, they had a good time for the first ten minutes, but then I learned her sister named Darcey was once her twin sister who passed away from starvation, and Lacey sees her in her sleep.
"What are we going to do?" Liam says.
"I don't know- we can't send her into that system and foster homes.. We can't..." I feel tears brimming in my eyes.
Liam rubs my back, "It's okay, we'll figure something out Ash."
"I could adopt her, or foster her and go back home."
"Ash.. They won't let you go back..."
"She can live at my home in my mom's care for a while."
"Let's just get her dressed and cleaned first and then we'll talk. We still have a full day left until we go back to Connecticut."
I shake my help and whip my tears away. Lacey is humming a song while smiling. I look back and smile at her.

I gave Lacey a bath, the bathtub's water became dirty. Louis and Niall both know about Lacey. They've been trying to cover for us the whole morning.
I have her one of my shirts, that fit on her perfectly like a white dress. And then I brushed her hair and tried my best to clean her old worn out shoes.c
"Let's go to the mall yeah?" I say to Lacy.
He smiles at me then Lacey, "We can go shopping for clothes."

"How about this shirt?" I show Lacey a sleeveless pink shirt with a heart on it.
She frowns, "I don't like pink."
I smile at her, "Neither did I, we'll find something." We walk further into the store, I let Lacey pick out whatever she wants and she shows me her selections.
She shows me a dark blue shirt with a Dino on it, and she shows me a shirt that is black with the moon on it.
"Okay, let's find Liam."
We look around for Liam, suddenly a man bumps into me and he starts talking to me.
"Did you find anything?"
"Excuse me?"
Oh wait, Liam is wearing a disguise.
I giggle at myself before showing him the shirts. I also give him the pair of jeans and shorts I picked for her. He smiles and goes up to pay for them.
"Shoes now?" Liam says, holding the backs in his hands.
I nod my head while Lacey is smiling. We walk across to the shoe store and Lacey looks very happy.
She walks over to the converses, and I laugh as Liam helps her pick a shoe out.
She ends up getting four pairs of socks and a pair of baby blue converse and white flip flops.
"Are we done?" I say.
"Let's sit down at a càfe and get something first."
We all get into Liam's car, Lacey playing with her hair.
Liam puts the radio on and Midnight Memories comes on.
Lacey starts singing along and Liam is grinning.
"How do you know this song?" Liam says, considering she doesn't own a TV or a radio.
"Oh, my sissy sings it to me a lot!"
"Your sissy?" I ask.

"She's right here!" Lacey booms with happiness and looks behind her.

She 'sees' her dead sister...
