Luke's POV
It was around 8am and Sam was still sleeping. She's been through a lot lately and I feel really bad because she's stuck here with me in her home. She probably just wants to be alone. I got up and went to the bathroom and examined the scars. They didn't look bad. I cleaned them with some peroxide and walked into the bedroom to check on Sam. I saw her sitting up and staring into space.
"Good morning Sam. Did you sleep alright?" I asked her sitting down and bringing her in for a hug.
"Good morning. No, I was up and down all night."
"Would you like some breakfast?" She hasn't eaten in almost 24 hours, she has to be hungry.
"No. Food has lost it's taste. I think I'm gonna pay my mother a visit this morning." She said.
"Ok. Do you want me to go with you?"
"Yes, if you want to. I could use the extra help." She said. I slipped on some basketball shorts and put on a black shirt. I quickly put my shoes on and waited for Sam. I sat in the kitchen drinking some water and Sam walked in with black skinny jeans, a white shirt, and grey converse. She looked amazing even though she was an emotional wreck. I stood up and gave her the glass of water.
"Drink. You need something in your system." She drank a little bit of the water and handed the glass back to me. She sat down and pulled out her phone. A few minutes later she looked back up and just stared around the room.
"Are you ok? Are you sure you wanna face your mom today?" I asked taking hold of her hand. She nodded and stood up.
"Let's go. The sooner I get there the longer her day will be ruined." We walked out and climbed into the car. We sat in complete silence the whole way there. About fifteen minutes later, we pulled up outside of a house. Sam looked through her purse and pulled out the note Adam had left. We hopped out of the car and walked hand in hand to the door. She rang the door bell and we waited. She started crying as she heard the locks on the door being turned. I squeezed her hand and the door swung open.
Sam's POV
"Hello, mother. How are you today?" I asked wiping my tears away. She had answered the door in her robe and held a beer in her hand.
"Hello Sam. I'm fine, but you look like shit. Who's your friend?"
"This is Luke. He's been bullied and everything and his parents left so he's been living with me." I said. She stuck her nose up at him and studied his figure.
"I see nothing. I thought he was bullied." She said. I felt Luke tense up and I squeezed his hand. He relaxed and I spoke.
"He was bullied. Luke, do you mind if we show her where you were beat up?" He shook his head and lifted his shirt up. My mother's eyes widened as she studied his stomach.
"Ok. Doesn't look too bad. I don't know why you need my daughter to get back on your feet." She said rolling her eyes.
"Ms. Tanner, I almost died because I lost a lot of blood. If it wasn't for Sam, I wouldn't be here right now." Luke said putting his shirt down.
"Yes, and the world would go round if you weren't."
"Mother! Why in the hell would you say that?! He did nothing wrong. If anything he's helped me through a lot. Remember how you beat Adam and then kicked him out?" I said raising my voice. She nodded and I stepped in the door with Luke, handing her the note.
"Read it. I found it yesterday." I sat down with Luke and started crying. Luke wrapped his arm around me and we watched as my mom read the note. She looked up.
