So fair warning this story doesn't start out with Collins Key but he does come into play later so it's a mix between just a regular fiction story and a fanfic. With that said please enjoy.

It was a particularly icy December day, somewhat uncommon for Ohio so early in the season but winter seemed to be coming fast and hard this year.

It was Tuesday morning at 8:00 and school was canceled but I couldn't go back to sleep. My dad called me out to the living room.

"Madison come out here please."

I slowly crept out to the living room.

"I'm going to take your mother to work because I don't want her driving alone but I'm not going to work today. I'm going to stay in town and do some errands; we will be home after your mother gets off work. Be nice to your brother and I will see you later. Love you."

I said goodbye to my parents and the day went on normally.

I caught up on some homework then binge watched Nextflix the rest of the day. My younger brother, who was 12, was pretty good which I was quite grateful for.

My mother got off work so I was expecting my parents home by about 4:15. We live about 25 minutes from where she worked but with all the snow and ice I knew it would take a lot longer than 25 minutes.

As 4:45 approached I knew something was up but I didn't want to call and ask as to distract either of my parents from the road so I just kept calm and tried to keep my brother calm.

"Madison, where is mom and dad."

"I'm not sure Kody but they should be home soon."

At 5:03 is when my world came crashing down.

By this point I knew whatever had happened couldn't have been good but then a police car showed up and it was confirmed. The officer told me to pack an overnight bag for me and my brother and that he would explain everything in the car. This is what he said:

"They were coming around a curve and hit a patch of ice. Your dad tried to get out of the way of the oncoming car but there was nothing he could do. It was a head on collision and I'm terribly sorry but there was nothing they could do. Neither of your parents survived."

I was numb, this wasn't real, this wasn't happening. My parents were fine and this was just some cruel joke.

They took us to our grandmothers house and she was sobbing. I new it was real because I hadn't seen my grandmother like that since my grandfather's funeral. I cried and cried. No words could describe the pain I felt. It was like death was ripping at my soul but wouldn't quite take me just so it could see me suffer.

At 3:43 p.m. Tuesday December, 8th I became an orphan and life after that would never be the same.
