Some Big Changes

The first order of business was the funeral. I won't go into much detail but lets just say there was a lot of crying and saying goodbye was the hardest thing I have ever done.

Next to do was the matter of my and my brother. Here it got tricky. Before passing my parents were in the process of finalizing their will but since it wasn't finalized it couldn't be honored. The will wrote that we were to be put under the care of some family friends but since it couldn't be honored we, along with everything else, went to the next of kin, my grandmother. This also was quite tricky because my grandmother couldn't really afford to take in both me and my brother.

So the next step was to decide if one of us should go into the foster system. We were informed of a couple that wanted an older child an were actually willing to adopt.

"I want to be the one adopted. Kody is much younger and needs to spend that time with family. I'm a junior and will be graduating next year so I won't have to stay with the family if I don't want" I said as I tried to sway my grandma.

After much discussion it was decided that after the holidays I would begin the transition of meeting and moving in with my new family.

Next on the agenda was the problem of school. My brother nor I had been to school since the accident and being only a couple of days away from winter break we weren't going back. With our new living situations we would be transferring to different schools.

Everything came so fast it was hard to digest. First my parents die, then I'm getting adopted by a couple I've never met, finally I have to leave the only school I've ever known and all of my friends behind. I would go from having a class of about 70, which was big for my school, to a class of about 200. It was going to be really challenging but I was going to do it for my parents knowing that they would want me to continue my life and still succeed despite all the hardships. Ready or not here it comes.
