Becoming alpha in my pack was the least of my worries. Whoever was the fastest, strongest, and smartest became alpha. It didn’t stay in one family. Whoever challenged the current alpha and won was alpha. But let’s say the alpha was to get older, my father is almost fifty, he would ‘retire’ and let a younger male take his place. All the males that are older than 25 are eligible to fight or replace the alpha. So he could step down quietly or he could go with a fight.

Naturally he would go quietly. Nobody ever expected my father to become alpha; he was the quietest one in his family.

If an alpha steps down, he and his family receive pack benefits. As long as he lives. So they receive fresh meat, fresh fruit, first choice of cloth, and bread. The pack doesn’t like it when an alpha steps down. We’re poor already. Giving a single family the best is like running to the white people to mate.

Sean was itching to become alpha but he was only 19.

“You know if I could fight with them, I would.” I was lying on his bed. It was almost midnight.

I rolled onto my stomach, playing with the edge of his blanket. “Yeah but you can’t. So keep your skin on.” I looked at the clock, 11:47pm; I whined lowly and stood up. “I can’t take it anymore; I’m going to see your sister.” I quietly went into the hallway and looked down at his mom’s room. The door was shut. Downstairs was dark and quiet. I walked casually as if going to the bathroom then I made a basketball move and spun into Emy’s room.

She was sitting on her window sill, staring into the forest. “Hey, missed you.” She whispered when I closed the door. I locked it and jumped into her bed. She turned and smiled at me. I buried my face in her sheets and pillows, savoring her scent. Fresh snow and a dash of cherries. The most delicious smell ever.

I felt the bed dip in when she crawled in. I immediately sat up and pulled her under me. She giggled quietly as I licked and sniffed her neck. I ran my tongue up the length of her neck and nipped at her earlobe. She pushed me away slightly, disliking it when I got close to her ears. I snorted playfully and went limp as she was pushing me up.

“God! Siri!” she groaned as she tried to keep me off her. Her arms started to shake so I trapped her between my arms. I kissed the tip of her nose and gently laid my body on top of her. She smiled and slid her hands under the thin cotton shirt I was wearing.

“School tomorrow, let’s sleep.” I moved so only my torso was on her. She bit my neck hard and licked the blood that was released.

“You’re mine.” I shivered and kissed her shoulder.

“I don’t belong to anyone else.” I held her close and fell asleep.

~School for werewolves~

I looked at my schedule; I had 4 main classes then 3 training and fighting classes. I sighed. I would be done with school around four this evening. I stuffed the schedule into my backpack and walked into my first class.

The teacher was placing papers on the desks, while chatting to the students that were already there. There was 8 minutes until the bell rang, so I seated myself near the back of the class. The desks towards the back were specifically designed for the wolves. In all of the classes. So I made sure the desk was alright for me, but also the desks to my left and in front of me were fine for Emy.

Resting my head on the desk, I let out a small breath. My last year in high school. It’s supposed to be the pinnacle of my school career but all I’m feeling is…nothing. Straight after high school I’m to be married off.

“Married…and not to my mate.” I groaned and sat up. That’s too much to think about. For now, I need to worry about schoolwork and Emy. I need to figure out a way to get out of this arranged marriage, not that I was repulsed by the male chosen for me; Sean was always in my life. His presence comforted me, but it was his sister that I was destined for.

I wonder how the pack hasn’t found out about this. Usually, when mates found each other it was broadcasted on their faces and actions. They smelled constantly of each other, lust, and love. But I was always around Sean when with Emy. His masculine scent overpowered his little sisters intoxicating scent.

I caught a whiff of fresh snow and cherries. Two hands lightly grabbed my braid and twirled it in their fingers. I smiled and leaned back. Students filed in and found seats right away.

“Thanks for saving me a seat!” Emy sat down and switched notebooks with me. It was a weird thing of hers. I bought my school supplies knowing she’d use them and she bought hers with me in mind. We switched one notebook each year, writing our names in it so we had something of each others.

“No problem thought you’d be more comfortable near me.” Our fingers brushed and memories ran through my mind.

The teacher started speaking, rules and regulations leave the wolves to their business after lunch, and since we’re seniors we needed to set an example for the younger students.

“Yada yada yada, stuff stuff stuff, rule this, rule that, pee here, eat there. We’re seniors for god sake! We know the damn drill!” Amane said. She was a mouthy transfer student from Japan, who happened to be Sean’s mate.

She smiled and winked at me. Everybody supported her outburst with “Yeah!” and “God damn it!” the teacher shook her head at us and waved her hand, signaling we could do whatever with our remaining time of class.

Amane walked right over to me and Emy. She sat down on my lap, not minding the looks that everyone was giving her. Emy glared slightly but let it go right away.

“Dear Siri, when are you going to profess your love for me?” she nuzzled my neck and spoke in a little kids voice. I stiffened and slightly moved my face away from her.

“When the time is right, my little one.” I stiffly put my hands on her arms and pushed her away.

“Oh, get a room.” Emy huffed and faced forward.

Amane was always taking advantage of the intimacy factor in the pack. I wasn’t that uncomfortable with her on my lap, but it was in front of Emy, and that was a major no-no. Emy had major jealousy issues and I didn’t want to face her wrath…again.

“Amane…could you please get off me? Emy…” I whispered in her ear. She frowned and glanced at the back of Emy’s head. You could feel the anger rolling off of her in waves.

“She’s no fun, Siri-chan. You need a girl like me in your life.”

“I do have you in my life. But she is my life.” Amane smiled and stood up, fixing her clothes. The boys groaned. They wanted lesbian action, of course.

“Emy, let’s go to my house for lunch. We have plenty of food now.” I scooted to the edge of my desk, getting closer to her.

She sighed but didn’t say anything. I frowned and growled a little.

The bell rang and Emy got up and left right away. I grabbed my things and quickly followed her. We didn’t have the next class with each other, but knowing Emy she would make a big deal out of this by the time third period came around and I wouldn’t be able to make things right.

She disappeared into a classroom, leaving me wading through the sea of bodies. I stopped and snuck to the lockers. I leaned against them and sighed.

“Siri Swiftfoot.” I barely had time to look to my left when a fist connected with my face. I barely stumbled from the hit. It was only to provoke me.

My first day of school, I’m already going to fight. Great.
