"I'm sorry, I don't know you," I told the girl but she completely ignored my statement and sat next to me. She stared at me as if sizing me up and I didn't know what to do.
"So you are Aura Thomas? You do not look difficult," she stated and I only stared at her confused. I'm difficult? I didn't even know what she was talking about, I didn't even know who she was! As if reading my mind she said, "I'm Sabrina Redgard, Daniel's sister."
I should have known, she looks just like him. But why was she here? I know her brother is here, but I think he would have told me if he was bringing his sister. And I knew that Ryder didn't know this girl. If he did, she would have been one of his girlfriends. She ran her hand through her copper colored hair and leaned back in the chair. "Are you waiting for Daniel?" I asked her and she chuckled darkly.
"Me and Daniel are not on speaking terms right now." She looked over at me and I saw that her eyes were brighter. She was seriously freaking me out. I started to feel dizzy so I closed my eyes and waited until the feeling subsided. "That's interesting. You're playing with my brother to find out something you have no business knowing. And you've grown feelings for him, how sweet."
What the hell? How did she know that? The playing with him, not the feelings. That was just a lie. She must have been talking to Rebecca, that's the only logical reason. "H-h-how did you know that?" I stuttered and she laughed at me.
"I have not spoken to Rebecca, Aura." Her eyes were now blazing a bright green and she looked at me with anger. I was now feeling something I haven't felt in years: fear for myself. I looked around the room and everyone seemed oblivious to Sabrina being here.
"D-Daniel should be back soon," I told her and she chuckled darkly.
"No, he's won't," she said and snapped her fingers. Everyone in the room stopped moving and the music stopped playing. It was deadly quiet. My breathing and heart rate increased as I looked around the room. Everyone was frozen in place doing whatever they were doing before she snapped her fingers. This had to be a trick, no one could freeze time. Sabrina stood up and inspected her work. She seemed satisfied and my fear only increased.
"What.. how... why... I." I was at a lost for words. I wasn't processing this, I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what she was and I probably won't come out of this alive. But I could just be going crazy.
"This is not a trick Aura. And you are not crazy," she said turning around to me. Her eyes were the brightest green I have ever seen. "Stand up," she demanded and my body stood up on its own. I tried to fight it and it caused me extreme pain. My breathing was ragged and my eyes were blurry with tears.
"What are you doing to me? What's going on? How did you freeze these people? Is this a trick?" the questions came tumbling out and she ignored each one. My eyes widened when I saw blood start to flow from her nose. She didn't ignore the next question I asked her. "Why are you bleeding?"
She felt the blood slowly flowing from her nose and smiled evilly. "I guess I'm over using my power. Let me make this quick."
"Power?" I asked her and she rolled her eyes.
"I don't have time to explain things to you. You were suppose to be a sacrifice but she failed. It doesn't matter now, I have another one."
"A sacrifice? A sacrifice for what?" I asked and she sighed in frustration. Could you blame me for asking questions? I've seen in shows that you are suppose to keep the killer talking, I don't know why but usually the cops show up at the perfect time. I've also learned to deal with crazy people since I had to live with them.
"I told you I don't have time to explain."
"So why are you here?" I asked and she continued to give me that evil smile. Her eyes dimmed slightly and I was able to move my body freely. But I didn't dare move. I was too terrified to. I was also afraid of her answer. I was running out of questions.
"I want you to tell Daniel something for me," she responded
"And what is that?" I asked with a shaky voice. I just wanted her to leave. I wanted to interrogate Daniel and demand him to tell me what the hell is going on. I wanted him and whatever she is to stay away from me. But I also didn't want to lose Daniel, no matter what is going on. I couldn't explain it.
"Tell him, Shaba visited and she said that it's time," she replied and snapped her fingers. The room was brought back to life as the people danced and the music blared. Sabrina disappeared in the crowd leaving me terrified. Time for what?
I slowly sat down on th couch, body trembling as I waited for Daniel to come back from the bathroom. If anyone could explain what just happened it would be him. He came back shortly carrying two cups.
"Brought you something to drink. It's ice tea with lemon juice, your favorite." He handed me the drink smiling and I accepted it with shaky fingers.
"Daniel there's something I have to tell you."
"Wait, before you do I have a question for you," he said stopping me from telling him that his crazy sister came by and did something that I needed him to explain. "Why do you live with your brother? I know its none of my business but its been bothering me for a while not knowing."
"This is not the time for that Daniel. I have something important to tell you," I said after taking a sip of the drink, I couldn't even taste it.
"When will it be time Aura? I'm sorry but I really want to know. I feel like I know you but I don't know you. I mean, you tell me things and all but its like you're holding back-"
"Daniel will you just listen to me!" I yelled and he quickly shut his mouth. I closed my eyes and said the exact words that his sister told me to say. "Shaba visited and she said that it's time." When I opened my eyes, I saw that he was extremely pale looking off into the distance.
"What?"
"I said Shaba visited and she said-"
"I heard you the first time Aura," he snapped cutting me off. He turned to me and I saw that his eyes were brighter than usual. It reminded me of Sabrina's and that was terrifying. What exactly were these people?
"Daniel she froze time. She was talking about sacrifice and powers. What is she? What are you?"
"This is all my fault. I wasn't suppose to get close to you. I was suppose to keep everyone away. I'm so sorry Aura and now because of me she won't leave you alone. Because of me, you and your brother are not safe. My selfishness put you and him in danger. I hope someday you can forgive me if we live through this."
"What the hell are you talking about?" I asked. He completely lost me at the beginning. I was afraid of Daniel but I also wasn't. Because I knew that whatever he was, he wouldn't hurt me. Unlike his sister.
"I can't explain it here. Please, go get your brother and let me take you to my house. I'll explain it there."
"But-"
"Aura! This isn't a request, it's a demand. Go get him, I'll meet you in front of the door in 30 seconds." With that, he stood up and quickly walked toward the door. I also stood up but went the opposite way to the kitchen to find Ryder. I was finally going to get answers.
